Jake and Heeseung were assigned to work on a science project in a class. They had to work on an experiment and write a report on their findings. Jake had already thought of a project that he has to make with him.
He nervously sitting in the classroom waiting for his project partner to arrive. He had heard about Heeseung, the smart and grumpy second year who was known for his intelligence.
Everyone has a fat ass crush on him, everyone wants to be his friend.
He also wants to be friend with him but he heard that the boy is grumpy and cold.As heeseung walked into the room, the guy swallowed nervously and prepared himself for his icy cold welcome.
He couldn't help but notice that Heeseung is taller than him, with a lean build. His face is expressionless. He had sharp features, a strong jaw, and dark, intense eyes that seemed to pierce right through Jake.
They both sat in the room together all alone, a tense silence fell over them. Jake cleared his throat, broke the awkwardness.
"Uh, I'm Jake, by the way." he said with nervous smile.
Heeseung looked up from the book he was pretending to read and gave the boy a brief glance. "Yeah, I know."
"And you're Heeseung, right?"
"Yeah, I'm Heeseung," he confirmed, Jake shifted awkwardly in his seat, feeling a bit intimidated by Heesung's cold tone. He tried to think of something to say, but the guy spoke up before he could.
"So, what's your idea for the project?" Heeseung asked, his eyes fixed on his notebook.
"Well, I have a few ideas for the project." he said.
Heeseung looked up from his notebook again, giving Jake another brief glance. "Okay, let's hear them." he said.
Okay, um, one idea is..." Jake began, but before he could finish, Heeseung interrupted him. "Hold on, why are you so nervous?" he asked bluntly, his eyes fixed on Jake now.
He was caught off guard by his question and stammered out a response. "Uh, I'm not that nervous."
Heeseung raised an eyebrow skeptically. "You're bad at lying, look at your face, you are so nervous" he said.
Jake felt his face heat up even more from awkwardness. He tried to compose himself and respond calmly.
"I just... I guess I'm not used to being around people like you," he admitted.
Heeseung tilted his head slightly. "People like me?" he repeated.
"Yeah you know... um, people who are so..." He pauses, trying to find the right word.
"Cool," he finishes lamely.
Heeseung lets out a dry laugh, the first hint of emotion he's shown so far. "Cool, huh? Is that how you see me?" he says, the corner of his lips twitching into a smirk."Uh, yeah, I guess I do," he says, trying to sound confident.
"And why do you think I'm so 'cool' ?" he asks, raising an eyebrow
"Well, you just... you come across as really confident and smart. And... cool," he says lamely, cursing himself inwardly for his lack of expressiveness.
Heeseung leans back in his chair, "I don't know if I would describe myself as 'cool'. he says, a hint of amusement in his voice. "But I do appreciate the compliment."
"Yeah, maybe 'cool' wasn't the right word," he says as he lets out a nervous chuckle.
"No, cool was definitely not the right word." he teases. "But I appreciate the effort."
As they continue to work together, Jake starts noticing small moments of kindness and consideration that Heeseung shows, like patiently explaining concepts that Jake doesn't understand.
"Maybe he isn't as cold as he looks."
Jake thinks inwardly.Time was passing and they were still working on their project.
Jake and Heeseung are deep in thought about their project, when suddenly Heeseung cracks a dry joke."You know, if we keep working like this, we'll end up with a project so good, we'll be the envy of the entire class." he said with a straight face.
Jake snorts, unable to hold back a laugh. "Yeah, because that's exactly what we are aiming for."
He glances at his phone, checking the time. It's been hours since they started working on the project, and they're both hungry. He looks at Heeseung.
"You hungry?" heeseung ask while streching his arms.
"Yes I'm Starving," he admits, his stomach growling loudly.
Heeseung nods. "Yeah I can hear those sound. Let's take a break and grab some food?"
Jake smile nervously and agreed to him. They pack up their things and head out of the college.
"Hey, should I also call my friend to join us for lunch?"
Heeseung nodded. "Sure! Your friend is sunoo right? He's also working on a project with my friend sunghoon"
Jake nodded. "Yeah i know, Let's invite them."
He quickly shoots sunoo a text message, asking if he and sunghoon would like to join them for lunch at the cafe. A few minutes later, he looks up with a grin.
"They're on their way," he says, feeling a flutter of excitement.
They walked towards a nearby cafe. The cafe is busy with students, but they manage to find a small table in the corner. They were sitting quitely waiting for sunoo and sunghoon to arrive.
Finally, they spot them entering the cafe each carrying a backpack and looking tired from their own work on the project. Jake waves at them and they all exchange greetings.
After Sunghoon and Sunoo take their seats, they ordered some sandwiches and coffees.
Jake speaks up. "So, how's your project going?" he asks, looking at both of them."It's a nightmare. We've been stuck on this one problem and we just can't seem to figure it out." sunoo groans.
Jake giggled at Sunoo's expression "Yeah, we've been having our fair share of struggles as well." he said while looking at heeseung.
Sunoo nods in understanding. "I feel you. This project has been eating us alive, I swear." he rolled his eyes.
Jake glances at Heeseung, and sees a hint of exhaustion in his eyes as well. He knows that they've all been pushing themselves hard on their projects.
Sunoo leans forward, a sudden grin on his face. "Hey, we should all hang out together sometime. Not just for work, but to actually have fun."
Jake surprised at the suggestion. "Like what?" he asks.
"I don't know, we could go to the mall or something, shopping i guess.
Jake considers for a moment. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. We could all use a break."
Heeseung and Sunghoon both nod,
even tho they don't like to shopping, they agreed to them silently but clearly.Sunoo claps his hands together, excited. "Great! How about this weekend, then?"
Jake looks at Heeseung, for his response. "Fine by me," he says, his tone casual as usual. Sunghoon nods as well, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Perfect! Let's meet at the Sunshine mall on Saturday, then." sunoo announced.
After agreeing on a plan to meet at the mall on Saturday, conversation turns to lighter topics as they continue to eat their lunches. Sunoo is the most cheerful, filling the silence with chatter about upcoming exams and classes. Sunghoon and Heesung contribute a few comments here as well, while Jake listens and nods along. Despite their exhaustion from their projects, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.
