*KERRY'S POV*
"See you guys after class!" Charlie called, rushing off. That girl is gonna be late again. I shook my head and chuckled as I walked Joey back to my bike and handing him a bag "What's this?" He asked "Some dry clothes, get out of those wet ones." I explained "Ooh, kinky." He replied as I shook my head "...Now I kinda want you to freeze." I told him as he changed in the bushes. I saw campus security coming by and I slightly panicked "Joey, duck!" I whispered "Really? Where?" He asked, looking in the sky. I put my foot in the bushes and swept his leg, hearing him hit the ground.
That's when I saw who the guard on duty this morning was "Morning, Cal." I called "Morning, Kerry. Behaving yourself for once?" Cal asked "Not at all." I answered, earning a chuckle out of him "Well, at least you're honest about it. Oh, also, Kerry; Mr. Burnside had a flat tire on the way, so he's gonna be late." Cal explained "Is he alright?" I asked "Yes, but unfortunately he doesn't have a way to get to work, so I'm gonna call Dr. Barker and see if his class has started." he told me.
Mr. Burnside has always had my back during my time at Forest University, so I would always have his.. "Don't worry Dr. Barker, Cal. I'll go pick up Mr. Burnside." I told him "You sure?" He asked "Yeah, I got it. I just hope he can hold on." I answered "Well, your parents raised you well, Kerry Bennett. Just don't speed this time!" Cal called to me as I got on my bike, revving he engine and taking off out of the parking lot. Before anyone even asks, Mr. Burnside is pushing 80 years old with no family in town. There was no way I was even gonna consider leaving him out there.
*SAM'S POV*
I was pulled aside in the hallway, looking to see Leah "Okay, Sam, spill it. Why aren't you going to the dance? For real." She asked me "Because.." I answered "Because why?" She asked before her confused face softened "You wanna ask my brother, don't you?" She asked as I nodded a little "I know, I'm stupid for even being like this, I just.. I don't know.." I answered, defeated. "Sam, just ask him. I know Kerry, he'd go if you were the one who asked him." Leah told me "I can't now, because Jessica asked him. I don't wanna be that girl who ruins a friendship over a guy.. I also don't wanna be the one who ruins her friendship with said guy if he says no." I explained.
"Sam, you think too much. Kerry didn't say yes to Jess because he has been wanting to ask you, he just figured that you would already have a date by now." Leah told me, only getting me even more confused "But.. Kerry said that he was gonna stay home." I said "Girl, he says that every time. Sure, he wasn't here for the dance last year because he was staying with our mom in Lotus Beach, but he ended up going the year before." She explained "Only after Will and Joey literally dragged him in the door by his arms." I corrected before sighing "If he wants to go with me.. Then why didn't he say something?" I asked "Because he's still trying to figure out his own feelings. After his last girlfriend cheated on him, he's kind of guarded." She answered.
Oh, trust me.. I remember when Kerry was dating Janelle.. I also remember how much of the town hated her when it got out, took uncle Travis and Officer Dylan putting Leah in the patrol car to keep her from beating the girl up in the Jonsey's parking lot.
"Hey, I've got an idea! Why don't you get an invitation card and leave it on his desk? You'll get to ask him and won't have to actually talk to him." Leah told me "I don't know.. Wouldn't that be cowardly?" I asked "That's how I first started talking to William when we were in high school." She answered and my face went white "I'll get the card." I answered. "Good! We better get to class, I'll see you after." Leah told me with a smile before hurrying down the hall.
I went to the board and picked up an invitation card headed out. I peeked in Kerry's class and noticed no one was there.. Did it get cancelled? I heard the door to the building open and Mr. Burnside's voice. It sounded like he was talking to- Kerry! Crap, crap, crap! I threw the card in the envelope, hastily wrote his name and threw it on the desk he usually sat at before running around the corner. "Since you wouldn't accept any money as a reward, I'll sneak in a couple extra points to your grade for what you've done for me today, Kerry. You're a fine young man." I heard Mr. Burnside say "Really, sir, it was no problem. I'm just glad I could help." Kerry responded "I haven't felt a rush like that in twenty years!" Mr. Burnside cheerfully exclaimed, causing Kerry to laugh.
"Well, that just means I'll have to give you a ride again sometime." He replied "That would be fine. I would enjoy that." the veteran teacher replied "Did you leave this here?" He asked "No sir, I'm not sure what this is." Kerry answered, confusion in his voice. I take it he found the card.. "Well, who is it from?" Mr. Burnside asked "I'm not sure.. It doesn't have a signature on it." Kerry answered as I began mentally kicking myself. I was in such a rush, I didn't sign my freakin name! Should I go tell him? I was knocked out of my thoughts when I saw the clock and a panicked squeak left my throat. I was late for my own class!
I took off out of the building at a full sprint. Luckily, my building was right next door, but how was I supposed to explain this one?
