3 Days Later
*SAM'S POV*
I got out of the truck and handed Joey his crutches "Thanks, Sam." He said, climbing out of the back seat as I helped him to the ground "You got it?" Uncle Travis asked "Yeah, we got him. Thanks, Mr. M." Charlie answered with a smile "Okay, you kids go on ahead inside, I'll find a parking place that isn't on the other side of the lot." Uncle Travis told us "Yes, sir. We'll see you inside." I replied with a smile. Charlie stayed on one side of Joey and I watched the other as we walked inside the hospital doors. Uncle Travis talked to Mr. Bennett and said that Kerry would be glad to see us, so we wanted to surprise him.
Once inside, we were greeted by a nice receptionist who got us a chair for Joey, that way he didn't have to hobble all over the hospital. Turns out, he fractued his ankle when he fell, but nothing that actually broke. We were all happy about that.. "Can you tell us which room Kerry Bennett is in, by chance?" I asked "Oh, you must be Samantha Munroe! Mr. and Mrs. Bennett said that you and your friends would be visiting." The receptionist said with a smile "Yes, ma'am. My uncle will be here in a minute, he's parking." I explained "Oh, we all know your uncle. Sheriff Travis Munroe, such a sweetheart." She told me as I chuckled "The sweetest." I replied. She smiled and checked the computer, I looked at her tag. Cassadee.. I'll remember that.
"Ah, here he is. Kerry Bennett. Room 561." Cassadee told me, handing each of us a visitors pass "Thank you, ma'am." I replied. "You got Joey?" I asked "Yes, indeedie." Charlie answered, pushing him to the elevator. I pressed the button and looked around.. I had a feeling it would take a while.. These things usually always do.. I hummed to myself to pass the time, watching the people walk around in the first floor waiting room.. I couldn't help but think back.. How many of those people lost someone that night..?
Ding! I jumped and looked as the elevator opened. I looked back at the receptionist desk and saw uncle Travis talking to Cassadee and a doctor. I guess they know each other. "C'mon, Sam." Charlie called me onto the elevator. I was nervous, okay? What if Kerry got mad because we came to visit him? What if he actually never wanted to see us again? I guess we would find out when we got there, huh..?
Floor 2.. Floor 3.. Floor 4.. Floor 5. Ding! The elevator doors opened and I felt myself getting even more nervous. We began looking for room 561, passing the snack machines. I know where Joey and uncle Travis will end up before it's over.. Then I saw them.. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett was standing outside the room. Mrs. Bennett waved us over "I'm so glad to see you three.." She said in tears, hugging all of us "How is he..?" I asked "He'll make it.. Doctor said he may get to go home within the next couple of days.." Mr. Bennett answered "He lost a lot of blood.. T-They almost lost him.." Mrs. Bennett answered..
"Mrs. Bennett, I am so sorry we didn't visit sooner.." Charlie spoke "I understand why you guys took a few days.. Between your own doctor visits.. Mourning.. And you probably thought Kerry would be angry at you for what happened.. We're just happy you came to see him.." Mrs. Bennett replied, assuring us everything was okay. That was actually a huge relief.. "He's mentioned all of you. Especially you, Sam." Mr. Bennett added "Me?" I asked. Why me..? "B-But, I'm the whole reason he's here.." I told them "Sam, you had no idea any of this would happen. It isn't your fault. You're not the one who stabbed him." Mrs. Bennett explained.. I still felt guilty, though..
I heard feet approach behind me and looked "I'm surprised you haven't already hit the snack machine, Travis." Mr. Bennett joked "I will, soon as I talk to y'all and know that your son is alright." Uncle Travis replied. Apparently, uncle Travis and Mr. Bennett were in the police academy together. I never knew that until he told me. "You kids go ahead on in, he'll be happy to see you." Mrs. Bennett said as I nodded. I pushed the door slowly, knocking lightly. Kerry looked over with a wince, seeing it was us. Thank goodness, he was sitting up.
"Kerry..?" I called, Charlie peeking around me and Joey sticking a crutch in the door so that he could be seen, too "Sam? Joey? Charlie? I didn't think you guys would come by.." Kerry said, seeming surprised. "Of course we would, man. You're our best friend." Joey replied, Charlie wheeling him into the room "Yeah! We had to know that you're okay.. Sam here has barely eaten anything since everything happened, said she couldn't eat without knowing you were okay." Charlie answered. Kerry looked at her surprised before looking at me.
"Really?" He asked "Well, yeah.. The only reason you're even in here is because of me.. I should've believed you when you told me that you didn't do it and I am so sorry that I didn't.. It's been killing me to have that on my conscience.. Kerry, I can't even begin to explain how sorry I am for all this.." I answered. He shook his head "No, I get it.. I wouldn't have trusted me either. Especially since everything was fixed to frame me.. But, I hope this proves that I would never lie to you." He replied "...We'll give you two a moment alone." Joey said as Charlie grabbed his chair and wheeled him out of the room.
"H-How can you just forgive me that easily? I would be furious with me if I were you.. I'm furious with myself!" I told him as he gently patted for me to sit next to him. I sat down and he looked at me "Sam, we've known each other forever. You know that I couldn't stay angry with you, even if I tried." He assured me. I couldn't help but smile a little "Hey, Kerry?" I called "Yeah, Sam?" He asked. I took a breath "There's something I've been wanting to tell you for years, I just never had the courage to do so.. But, after I nearly lost you, I..-" I started before he put a hand to my cheek, pulling me in and kissing me. He could probably feel my face get burning hot under his hand.
He pulled away and we looked into each other's eyes "I love you too, Samantha Munroe." He said, I just looked at him in surprise "H-How did you know what I was gonna say..?" I asked. He smiled at me, chuckling softly and wincing in pain because of it "Because I was gonna tell you the exact same thing during the final dance." He answered. I grinned widely and kissed him once again, holding his face gently, but being extremely careful not to aggravate his wound.
"It's about freakin time." Joey's voice said and I heard Charlotte lightly squeal, but I just ignored them. I had everything I ever wanted right in front of me..
