Assistant State's Attorney Winston Arnett leaned back in his chair and said," This Skip Sands case looks like a loser to me. "

He did not really care about the damn case. Or any of his cases. All he could think about was Sarah and her being gone. The fact that she died while on the phone with him was hitting him hard. He could not think about never seeing her again or holding her again or kissing her again. He should have fought for her back then. And his daughter. He pursed his lips, thinking of his precious child being raised by two perverts. He would never tolerate that. Norland had agreed to have a DNA test done tomorrow. Once it proved the truth he was removing his child from that deplorable home and bringing her to his in Germantown. Where she belonged.

" Is this all you have? ," he asked Detective Nita Browne who stood in front of his cluttered desk. " Seriously? The man claims it was a consensual sexual act with this man Spencer Norland -Lane. For all we know it's true and this man is just being vindictive. We all know how those people are. Dramatic. "

Nita thinned her lips. " The handicapped victim was attacked. He was beat. He had his glasses broken. We have DNA. And Sands lied about the alibi. This case is not a loser. This is solid police work. "

Winston laughed. " Ever heard of rough sex , Detective? And he might have lied but your victim kept saying in the beginning he was not raped. Then he changed his story. You want me to take this in front of a jury and a judge? No. I'm not. This will destroy my conviction rate. I'm offering him a deal. "

" What ! We have evidence that the victim was being threatened by this man. He was raped and terrorized. A deal is ridiculous! "

" You heard me. A deal where he gets a year of probation and a five hundred dollar fine. You should be happy. He gets some type of punishment and I don't have a loser on my record. I could just drop the charges. You want me to do that? "

Nita placed her dark brown hands on his desktop and leaned forward, her brown eyes glittering coldly at him. " No. I want you to do your damn job. "

Winston stood up and pointed at her. He said harshly," Get the hell out of my office while you still have a job. "
