Maisie's meds were definitely not working as well as before. Her behaviour was becoming more and more difficult to manage and she was being removed from her lessons most days.
"Oh Mais," Miss Bisham sighed when she came to collect her from her English class.
"Sorry."
She'd been disruptive the entire time and her teacher had eventually had enough of her. Miss Bisham was brilliant at getting Maisie to reflect on her behaviour without making her feel like she was being told off. It was the perfect way to deal with it and always got the best out of the situation.
"Ok so what do you need so it's different next time?"
"To sit somewhere else so I can focus better."
"Awesome. We'll speak to miss and sort that out."
Maisie spent the rest of the lesson sitting in the PE office and then she sped out to play football on the field.
There was a group of them who played with each other and they always had a great time.
"Mais!" Charli cheered as she ran over to them.
"You alright?" she asked, taking off her jumper and bag and dumping them with the other stuff. Technically she was meant to wear a blazer but she flat out refused and it caused so much trouble that the teachers had eventually given up.
The others they usually played with were already kicking the ball around and the girls ran to join them.
There were only four girls who played football in their year so they were obviously close. Maisie loved Charli, Amira and Heidi and they loved her.
The four of them plus Kingsley, Layton, Tommy and Ruben formed a little group and they played football every lunch time, various other people joining them to make a proper game.
They kicked off and spent lunch having a match. They took over a large area of the field, no one coming near them in fear of being pelted with the ball.
More and more people joined in as lunch went on, they didn't mind though, it meant the game became more intense.
Maisie loved school football. Her brain would instantly calm and she spent the whole time dominating.
One thing she didn't love was when the annoying boys came to join. They didn't very often but they ruined things when they did.
Unfortunately today wasn't their day as Carlo and Jack came to play. Maisie hated Carlo with all her heart. He was cocky and annoying and always ruined stuff.
He breezed in to tackle her and she did some quick stepovers, sending him tumbling onto his backside. They all erupted and she carried on down the line.
Suddenly her legs were taken from under her and she was on the floor.
Something snapped inside of her. If her meds were still working properly, she probably wouldn't have lost it as much as she did. But they weren't working and she was gone.
She leapt to her feet and shoved him in the chest.
"You're a fat fucking twat and no one likes you," she screamed.
"Mais leave it," Layton said, trying to get her away. She didn't want to stop and carried on hurling abuse at Carlo. He just wound her up more and her fury intensified.
Some teachers saw the commotion and came over to intervene.
"Maisie I think you need to come with me," Mr Bertrand said.
"No!" she shouted at him. She was furious and was now shouting at him as well as Carlo.
"This is not the appropriate way to deal with this."
