Hafeez stood up and left the place, leaving Mahnoor behind. She immediately stood up, her eyelashes wet with tears. She looked at her parents, her brother, Zohra, and Hafeez’s whole family, then wiped her tears and ran out of the house as if something was chasing her. Sania was in pain because she had always treated Mahni as her sister and had never seen her cry like this before. She was about to follow her when her parents stopped her, insisting that she bid them farewell first. Sania bid them goodbye, crying a lot as Omar held her hand, and they went to the car to go back home.

They arrived home, and Hamida immediately followed her daughter upstairs because she saw Mahni’s car parked in front of the mansion door, indicating that she had come home. Hamida and Ali went upstairs to talk to Mahni but found her door locked from the inside.

"Noori, open it, please," Hamida said with a sad tone, as she was also crying.

"Princess, open it. I promise if you don’t want this marriage, I’ll ask that bastard to divorce you," Ali said.

"What are you saying? Are you mad, Ali? I have fixed this alliance, so who gave you the guts to say so?" Dadi said.

Downstairs, Sania looked at Omar and asked him to take her upstairs because her lehenga was heavy and she couldn’t walk properly. She needed to be with Mahni, so he carried her in a bridal style and took her upstairs. When they reached upstairs, he stopped and put her down. She walked to Mahni’s room and found the other family members still knocking.

"Noori, are you there? Please open up. Won’t you do this for your bhabhi? Do you want to see me in tears? Look, I’m already missing home, and now you’re making me sad again," Sania said, pretending to cry.

"Just leave. I don’t want anyone," Mahni said from inside the room.

"Apni, please open it," Zara said, crying.

"Look, Apni, I will sing your favorite poem for you," Zara said again.

"Noori, please open it for me and Bhabhi's sake. She’s crying, and if you don’t care about her, think about me," Zara said.

"Nooroo, won’t you listen to your bhai, your Tom, your fighting partner? Look at what I brought for you: strawberries. Open the door. Also, have mercy on Zara; you know she’s an asthmatic patient," Omar said, holding a bag.

Immediately after hearing Omar's voice, Mahni opened the door and hugged him, then let them come in. The room was a mess: the blanket was on the floor, the room was dark, the side lamp was broken, and the mirror was smashed. Everything was ruined.

"Tell me, Nooroo, are you going to make yourself suffer? It’s not your fault, so why this? Look, her hand is bleeding. Maa, bring the first aid; let me bandage it," Omar said.

"Tell me, Bhai, did you also know about this marriage?" Mahni asked with swollen eyes.

"No one knew about it. Only I did," Dadi said, standing up and walking toward the window.

"Dadi, meaning?" Mahni asked in surprise.

"I’ll tell you the reason for your unexpected Nikah," Dadi said.

**Flashback:**

Many years ago, Dadi was still young, and her husband, Mr. Sherwani, was still alive. Ali’s younger brother, Ahmad, died in an accident and was in huge debt that they couldn’t pay back within a week. Mahnoor was in the hospital needing urgent treatment for a bone marrow transplant. Zara was just two months old, but they needed money for the treatment and to pay off the debt. Mr. Sherwani decided to go to Mr. Qureshi's house to ask for help, but in return, Mr. Qureshi said he wanted Mahni to marry his grandson when she grew up. Mr. Sherwani agreed, and immediately they gave him the money. The treatment was successful, and the debts were paid off. With the remaining money, Mr. Ali established his business. Some years later, when Mahni was 5 years old and Zara was 1, the family decided to run away because Mr. Qureshi was a very dangerous man, a politician who always got what he wanted. Unfortunately, on their way to Karachi, Qureshi’s men stopped them and shot Mr. Sherwani in the chest. He died on the spot, and Dadi became a widow.

Years later, Mr. Qureshi also died, but the promise remained. Before Mr. Sherwani died, he told his wife about the promise, making it Dadi’s responsibility to fulfill it, or the Qureshi family would kill the Sherwani family. Years passed, and on Mahni’s 19th birthday, Dadi received a call from Zohra (Mr. Qureshi’s wife) reminding her of the promise and saying she wanted the Nikah to take place soon because Mahni was now an adult. Dadi pleaded with them, but they didn’t agree. When they heard Omar was getting married, they told Dadi that Mahni’s marriage would happen simultaneously, but Dadi didn’t agree. Mrs. Zohra threatened Dadi, saying she would have the guards kill everyone if Dadi didn’t comply. Dadi had no choice but to agree, so the Nikah took place.

**Flashback ends...**

Mahni was devastated after hearing the truth and the reason for marrying her off without her consent. She felt trapped. Omar tried to reason with Dadi, suggesting they pay off all the debt, but Dadi explained that the Qureshi family didn’t want anything other than Mahni as their daughter-in-law. Mahni reluctantly accepted her fate after crying and hearing Dadi's explanation.

The family was all sad because, the next day, immediately after the Walimah, the Qureshi family would come and take Mahni with them as they were going back to Multan.

**The next morning...**

The house was decorated for the Walimah. Mahni wore a heavy lehenga and choli with her dupatta and necklace. She looked beautiful but also sad because she was leaving her friends.

The Walimah was completed, and the guests all left. Suddenly, Mrs. Ramsha and others came to take their daughter-in-law. Mahni went to her room to change and cry because it was time to leave.

**Assalamu-alaikum**

So... we’re done with this chapter. After writing the flashback, I was thinking about something. I hope what I wrote is good.
