"Hey, you," JJ heard and looked up from her jello cup to see Emily poking her head through the door before entering. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay," the blonde smiled, taking a bite of the sugar free lime substance. "A week in here and the jello is still the only good thing to eat."
Emily let out a small laugh as she smiled, shutting the door behind her before moving to sit in the chair she pulled next to JJ's bed.
JJ had been in the hospital for the past week, resting and recovering from her time in the warehouse. She ended up having a broken arm they needed to do surgery on to fix, so her right arm was now in a light blue cast, which just so happened to be Emily's favorite color. When Emily saw it, she got sad for her wife but smiled at the color, JJ explaining why she chose blue with the biggest smile. JJ had a few bruises and cuts on her cheeks and one cut on her forehead that had all started to heal. She also had a black eye that wasn't as nearly swollen as it was a week ago; practically gone with some purple bruising. The handprint on her throat was still there though. They could still make it out and JJ avoided mirrors like they were the plague, although there was only one small portion of the wall that had mirrors right above the counter.
She was extremely dehydrated and malnourished as well so they've had her hooked up to IVs since she was admitted. She definitely felt a lot better now though. They said she wouldn't have lasted much longer without water and that she was very very lucky. After she got rest, a few days later she had consented to doing a rape kit. At first she wasn't going to but she knew better. It would help at the trial even if the two men were now dead. She would get justice the best she could and hopefully be believed. But not just by the courts, but by the bureau as well. They weren't always the most kind and understanding and Emily advocated to take every precaution just in case anything happened.
Emily kept her promise. She never left JJ not once. Today was the first day she left and it was only after JJ had practically made her go to the hotel long enough to get something to eat, take a shower and hopefully get a few hours of good rest. And she tried. Emily tried to take a nap but she just tossed and turned, not sleeping good without JJ.
"Yeah, definitely one thing everyone hates about hospitals," Emily replied, moving to touch JJ but suddenly stopping, choosing to leave her hand on the bed close to her instead. The action didn't go unnoticed by the blonde who smiled in appreciation.
"I'm sorry," she started to apologize, sitting the jello cup on the table next to her. "I know you won't-"
"Hey," Emily cut her off gently. She gave her a small smile and held out her hand and JJ placed her hand in Emily's who gently squeezed it reassuringly. "You do not have to explain and you do not, under any circumstances, have to be sorry. I understand, baby. I promise I do. I'm here. I got you."
JJ used her free hand to wipe the tears that had started to escape before smiling at her wife. It wasn't her huge happy and enthusiastic smile, but a sad, grateful one instead. "I don't deserve you."
"Yes, you do," Emily replied sadly. "You deserve the world."
JJ cleared her throat and changed the subject. "Did you get anything to eat? I want to live vicariously through you."
"Well, of course," Emily smiled, leaning forward. She held JJ's hand in both her hands and brought it up to her lips. "I got room service which was some chicken pasta dish thing I couldn't really pronounce but it was so so juicy and delicious. And a bowl of fruit. There was mango, pineapple, watermelon and cantelope. Oh and a side salad that I picked at because I knew you would want me to."
"Of course because you need those greens, darling," JJ winked and the two women couldn't help but laugh.
"The team is asking about you. Asking how you're doing," Emily explained.
