It has been just over a week since I descended into Enkanomiya alongside Sangonomiya Kokomi, who guided me to the ruins of what was once a thriving city I would have called home. It was there that I uncovered the truths that had been obscured from me for millennia, revealing the mysteries of my past.
Before Osial took me, I started my life merely a child with loving parents. However, corrupt nobles abducted me to serve as the land's Eighth Sunchild, a fate I was spared from when Orobashi intervened, ending the cruel tradition of exploiting children as puppet rulers. Yet, my newfound freedom was fleeting; I was torn from my parents once again, not by nobles this time, but by a malevolent deity. This god, Osial, he sought to undermine Orobashi's reign and fashioned me into a weapon for his own gain during the tumultuous Archon War.
I learnt all of this from the enduring spirit of my mother, Yuna Phaedra, and this taught me that my clan name is actually that of a rather historic clan amongst the people of Watatsumi Island: the Yuna clan. Unfortunately this first encounter with my mother after a couple millennia of being separated from her would also be my last.
For after she had fulfilled her dying desire of seeing me once more, and of helping me fill in the extensive gaps within my memory, she was no longer able to maintain her physical form... but I suppose at least I was able to see her that one last time, and I could hear her voice... goodbye, my mother... thank you...
Gorou: "Ah, Captain Y/N! Taking a stroll around Watatsumi Island once again I see! And nothing else, I'm sure?!"
Y/N: "That's right, sir. Just enjoying a stroll... definitely not on an impromptu patrol against Her Excellency's wishes... again."
Gorou: "Excellent! I'm glad to hear that! I'm sure Her Excellency hated giving you that disciplinary just as much as you hated receiving it! Although... Might I ask what those binoculars are for exactly?"
Y/N: "Oh, these? Uh... birdwatching. Yes, sir, just birdwatching!"
Gorou: "Ah. Is that so...? I didn't realise you had such a hobby! What types of birds have you found so far, on this island and the surrounding waters, might I ask?"
Y/N: "...oh, uh... well... you know, sir... I don't really know the names of the specific types of birds around these parts, still being new to the area and all. I just sorta like watching them... you know?"
Gorou: "Hmm... I suppose that makes sense... and what of the nearby enemy patrols? Have they come much closer?"
It was right then when I realised my cover story wasn't going to work. General Gorou had immediately figured me out, I had been using these binoculars to keep an eye on the nearby Nobushi Wanderers, and as well to keep watch for any potential Shogunate ships that might sail near the shore of Watatsumi Island. Sure, I had looked at the occasional bird as I noticed them, but my focus was definitely on guard duty over anything else...
Y/N: "Ah... Well, you see, sir—"
Gorou: "Save it, Captain. I had somebody inform me of your suspicious behaviour already, I know that birdwatching isn't your primary aim this afternoon."
Y/N: "Ugh... Yukina?"
Gorou: "You know that I cannot divulge my sources on such matters, Y/N. Now, your diligence would normally be much appreciated, but you know that Her Excellency has forbidden you from any military work whilst you're on bereavement leave..."
Y/N: "...but I'm not actively doing anything, sir. It's just passive work; if I happen to spot something whilst I'm... well, 'birdwatching,' it will be purely happenstance."
