The bed feels warm with you

Melina tensed up within seconds and stopped eating all of a sudden

Melina tensed up within seconds and stopped eating all of a sudden. The joy and comfort disappeared from her face as she looked at Zara, unblinking. She appeared aghast and I sensed a very unusual fear in her eyes and parted lips.

I wasn't paying much attention to what was happening during dinner time and I now regret it. For the first time, I saw Melina visibly paling.

I glanced over to Zara, "What?"

"What?" She asked back, defensively, "You both don't share a room! Aren't married couples supposed to sleep on the same bed?"

"You sleep in separate rooms?" asked Mom with questioning eyes.

What on earth?

Noticing Melina's discomposure, I responded, "That isn't a big deal for us."

"Zayden," Zara leaned closer, "You know couples drift apart in love when they don't share the same bed, right?"

"Says who?" I shot back.

Melina stood up with her now-empty plate and hurried to the kitchen. What surprised me more was that neither my mom nor my sister noticed her frightened reactions. Why was I the only one to notice it immediately?

"You both shouldn't be sleep divorced this early in your marriage," Mom stated, strictly.

"It's too early for us to do that, mom."

She stood up, sighed, and followed Melina into the kitchen with the empty cutleries.

"It's been a while since mummy disapproved of your actions, perfect sonny."

"What's wrong with you? Stop being so nosy," I glared at Zara who just shrugged in response. That pissed me off more.

For now, all I wanted was to talk to Melina.

Something is bothering her and she's unwilling to let it out.

I haven't seen her like that before. She was. . .scared.

The entire change in mood of our dinner was uncalled for and I couldn't put my finger on what Melina was thinking that time. All I knew was that she felt uncomfortable at Zara's question or her tone was off. I've noticed Melina is quite sensitive, but she seldom shows it and masks it with her airy attitude.

Checking my phone, I stood up and decided to spend some time in the study room.

"Okay," I halted in my tracks when I heard Mom, "From today onwards, the two of you are sleeping in the same room."

I turned back, a frown making its way onto my face, "Pardon?"

"I'm not against both of you doing anything in your marriage, and I'm not the type of person to interfere in it. However, this is my only condition."
