Parking the sleek and spotless Hyundai Veloster, he hurried his way to the elevator. His fast and big steps reverberated in the dull basement surrounded by vehicles of several employees. Upon reaching the elevator, he halted for a moment to catch his breath. Lack of exercise and physical activity made him combat fatigue and breathlessness often.
He inflated his cheeks, resting his hand on his hip while the other held the phone close to his ear.
"Hello, Boss?"
"Took you long enough to respond, Ben." He sighed, tired of even rolling his eyes at his secretary and the unnecessary usage of honorifics.
He could perceive the awkward laugh of the older man at the other end of the phone, covering up for his lack of words.
"Has the meeting started yet?" He questioned, stepping into the elevator the moment it opened.
Pushing the button to the highest floor, the elevator door shut closed giving him the privacy he craved for.
"The previous meeting was to be scheduled at 5:30 P.M, Sir. Due to your personal engagements, it was postponed half an hour later. I attended it in your stead and did the usual work of writing the minutes of the meeting." He started with his voice beginning to glitch because of the poor signal in the elevator.
"Send it to my e-mail, I shall have a look at it soon." He said, earning a response a few seconds later.
"The next meeting is about to begin, Sir."
The elevator came to a stop, opening up to reveal the extravagant last floor of the company.
The wooden setting of the place calmed his restive nerves almost immediately. Disliking the idea of typical cubicles that gave rise to claustrophobics at the end of the day, he aimed on making the work environment a little livelier. There were large black wooden desks supported by easily handleable brown legs and drawers provided under them for the accommodation of personal things.
As a plant enthusiast, he didn't fail to bring the workspace to life by adding plants here and there. The bay window panes added beauty to the place thanks to the varieties of plants placed-aloe Vera, snake plant, sago palm, and many more. The high-tech computer systems were maintained well, protected by padding, and cleaned by frequently scouring off the debris accumulated on the keyboard and the other hardware components.
The highest floor was where important meetings took place in the large meeting halls that primarily discussed the progress, reviews, feedback, and overall growth of the company.
He frantically walked through the corridors, glancing at his phone for any recent updates.
A part of him was distraught about the consequences he was to face had he been more than three hours away from work.
