Melina's mind and heart conflicted with each other as the week passed by. A part of her was ready to overcome challenges thrown at her way, but the majority compelled her to not face them and remain in her comfort zone. She didn't have an issue with meeting new people, for that's how the world worked, but the current scenario seemed twisted because it involved an opposite gender, a man.

Melina had a difficult time approaching men older than her in spite of having an older brother, for unknown reasons. She would turn beet red around them and awkwardness filled the air she breathed in. She couldn't have a comfortable talk with any guy older than her.

But, there was one reason to be blamed on.

Friendliness went a long way and when offered to her by a mature man, she'd find herself in a daze.

Thanks to her bashful nature, she hesitated. That explained the reason for her being single and considering boys at university as nothing more than her friends. In short, she felt suffocated when she developed a crush on anyone. She couldn't risk that.

She took a deep breath, "Dad, could you please help me with this university survey? It needs your sign and opinion."

"Later, I'm working right now. Go ask your mother, I'm not the only person in this family existing, am I?" He snarled, expressing his distaste. He harshly typed away on the computer, his eyebrows knitting together in disdain.

Melina stood there, unblinking, "You're a part of this family."

Expectedly, he turned a deaf ear to her words. She detested her father too much to even fight against his mood swings now. No words, tears, or silence could soften the stone-hearted moaner there before her.

Her parents weren't divorced but weren't happily married either. He wasn't physically or sexually abusive towards her, much to her gladness, but the constant pessimistic attitude towards situations came under an undiagnosed, psychological disorder.

"Why are you still standing there?"

She gawked at him, "Is that a problem now?"

"Pardon?" He looked at her from over his shoulder.

"Is your monthly wage going to reduce while I stand here asking you for some help?" She spat, throwing him a glare. She further muttered, "Jerk."

"Mind your language, Melina. Conversing with the younger ones has become a pain, lately. This generation will fail to learn discipline and respect towards their elders." He contemptuously stated, and her blood boiled at his statements.

As she grew older, Melina realized that her father had played a vital role in shaping her mindset to the worst. It was thanks to him she developed trust issues and was ensured that nice men after marriage were dead.
