ANIMAL VIOLENCE

———

Looseleaf took a shaky step back. And glaring daggers at the beast before him. The Raccoon like animal growled back in response, and snapped at him. Looseleaf jumped and stumbled, hitting the ground with a grunt. Another swipe came down on him, that he had to roll to dodge. Looseleaf then lifted his head and scrambled back.

The beast didn't move from its position, only growled and snapped at Looseleaf. It was trying to scare him away. Looseleaf narrowed his eyes as he noticed the behaviour of the animal before him. And raised an eyebrow, standing up. His glare less hostile.

The beast remained on defence, and growled louder, its hair standing up along its back as it snapped at Looseleaf once more. Looseleaf didn't budge, and instead approached. "HAH! I'm not afraid of you!" He grinned through his sharp teeth as he stared down the beast.

The large animal growled, and took a step back, wincing as it stepped on it's back leg. The creature whined but quickly growled once more, and swiped at Looseleaf. Looseleaf jumped back, stumbling awkwardly and stopping now a few feet back. His smile faded as he quickly realized something was wrong with the animal. Then... why had it approached in the first place?! He turned back, noticing where he had stopped was stepped on and pressed down. There was an indent in the bushes and grass.

This was it's nest...

"That explains a lot..." He muttered quietly with his raspy voice. He looked back up at the beast that was growling and hissing at him. Looseleaf stepped around the animal and noticed a black goopy substance seeped deep into the animal's fur. Looseleaf recoiled and bit his cold lip in disgust. The beast shot another paw at Looseleaf, just wanting him to go away. "Hey! Quit it!" He shouted, dodging once more.

The beast whined and limped to turn, snarling at him with sharp canines.

Looseleaf scoffed, and growled back at the beast, approaching anyway, looking at it in the eyes threateningly. He slowly approached, but of course, the beast didn't like him getting so close to it's injury. And swatted once more, this time hitting Looseleaf back into a tree. Looseleaf hit the tree with a thud and a crack! His wrist harshly hitting the tree and fracturing. Looseleaf yelped and whined himself. Grasping his wrist.

The piercing pain throbbed in the boy's wrist as he bore teeth to try and drown out his pain with anger. He let out a tearful roar, "WHAT THE HELL?!" Looseleaf clenched his fist around his wrist, wincing as he stumbled up from the tree. "THAT HURT YOU KNOW! DAMN IT!" He spat.

The beast just growled in response, snapping at him once more, and limping to it's best and letting out a hissing sound. It's three tails curl around itself, as it glared at Looseleaf with beady black eyes. Hostility still embedded within its gaze.

Looseleaf scoffed, and turned away.  He stumbled away from the animal, and collapsed down near a different tree out of sight. Not wanting to exert himself anymore after being injured. He sighed and rested his wrist on his knee. His fingers stiffly twitched.

He waited there a few hours.

The crickets hummed their nightly song, and critters of nocturnal nature littered the forest, and chattered throughout the entirety of the thicket.
