your first thought in teyvat wasn't anything majestic, or grand, or some paragraph about how fate is a cruel (or in this case, kind) mistress.

nope! screw that.

WET!

yuh huh. You didn't know why, or how, but you were sopping wet. WHY THE HELL AM I WET? oh that sounds wrong, noT THE TIME Y/N!

oh, and also, your lungs were collapsing in on themselves. not a pleasant feeling, would not recommend.

wait, am I in water? you thought, your immediate thought after that was duh, of course you were in water! why didn't you notice that earlier?

your second thought was oh shit, im in water.

now, personally, you were quite a good swimmer. Your parents had plopped you in swimming lessons when you were just a wee lad and you loved it (and still do)

but a very violent river was completely different then the tranquility of your typical swimming pool or habitable beach. it was very hard to swim in, and you were flailing around like dory from finding nemo only she's getting mauled and forgot how to swim.

...maybe that wasn't the best metaphor.

You opened your eyes against the roaring currents and shut them immediately, fearing that debris would get in them or the water would hurt them. You reached out blindly and groped the area for something, anything to grab ahold of and was met with water rushing between your fingers. You raised your head and risked another quick glance, trying to swim towards what you thought was up, but you really didn't know.

You raised your head and risked another quick glance, trying to swim towards what you thought was up, but you really didn't know.

up was down, right was left, and you needed to go up. Or was it down?

Cha cha real smooth y/n, youre gonna die an idiots death. You thought amidst the panic that came with drowning.

You held onto the last bits of oxygen you had, until your burning lungs couldn't take it anymore.

You huffed out the remaining air, lungs hoping to be met with more air in return, only to find water sloshing into your mouth. You gagged, trying to suck in more air while paddling helplessly.

after a while of holding your mouth shut as long as you could, you feebly tried to see if the water would magically turn into air if you attempted to breathe again, and it rushed up into your nose as you felt your stomach slosh around uncomfortably.

you opened your eyes again, praying for someone to see you struggling and come and help. alas, you remained in the dark depths alone.

your eyelids fluttered shut once more, as you gave into the helplessness and darkness and let yourself sink while the current tossed you around. you had hoped to last until genshin finished, but this was good.
you were fine with dying right now. It felt almost peaceful really, the quiet acceptance that you weren't going to make it.
