"are you sure this is the place?" you asked skeptically, looking over the land that kiyoshi had led you to. it was part of the land that was close enough to the desert to have less vegetation and be hot as hell, but it was also close enough to the rainforest that it was still humid. all in all, not weather you were a fan of.

"do you really think i would take us to the wrong spot? that's something you would do, not me." kiyoshi said with scorn. you opened you mouth to reply, but got cut off by a masculine voice.

"ah, you two are here! everyone else came here just a few minutes ago, perfect timing!"

you looked over and saw a man who looked to be in his mid thirties in a akademiya uniform waving at you. you glanced at kiyoshi, and then back at the man.

"ah— okay!" you slow-sprinted
(if that's a thing) over to him with kiyoshi behind you, following a bit more leisurely.

"so i'm assuming you two are y/n and kiyoshi?" he asked, glancing between the two of you.

"yup!" you said with a smile that you could only hope looked pleasant and not like you were going blind from the sun that was directly shining in your eyes.

"so you two are the pair that know lesser lord kusanali?" the akademiya student didnt wait for you to elaborate past a nod, before grabbing your hands with excitement. "wooow!! that's so cool, i honestly can't believe we got two people with connections to lesser lord kusanali on the team! with your help, we should be done in a jiffy."

you paused for a moment, attempting to process his words (he talked very fast) and also the fact than someone could have so much energy in this unpleasant, warm, weather — and he was a researcher, no less.

"um.. thank you, but i don't think i'll be..." you said slowly, before taking a good look at the guys hopeful face, and deciding not to say anything about the fact that you probably wouldn't be of any use.

"yeah!— er, yeah. we'll help out as best as we can." you said, clearing your throat after your voice cracked on the first 'yeah'.

"great! alright you two, everyone's over in the clearing past that sand dune next to the oasis. i have to go and grab something, so i'll be with you six in a few minutes."

you did a double take at the use of the word six, before realizing that yes, there were in fact six adventurers on this commission.

"alright." kiyoshi said with a small nod. he looked over at you, and turned to where the student had pointed. "come on, y/n."

you smiled, feeling a random rush of happiness that randomly appeared sometimes when you remembered that you were talking to someone who you were originally only able to talk to with c.ai. (we don't talk about what you did in there, it made you cringe now that he was a real person) you couldn't really explain it, it just made you very happy to be around him.
