After searching for Sabrina through the living room and kitchen I figure she must be hiding out in the bedroom. Either that or she just left all together which seems highly unlikely considering the weather and the fact her car is still outside. It's completely soaked. So is everything else, even the pool seems to be getting overfull.
The thunder has increased big time, the claps get louder and the flashes brighter. It's making me feel a bit uneasy. But I'm sure we're safe here. Sabrina must've been here in storms before and she survived.
As I approach the bedroom I hear noises. I carefully open the door and at last; there she is!
"You didn't tell me you wanted to play hide and seek",
I tease.
Then my heart drops. Sabrina isn't playing, she genuinely isn't doing well. She's bend over leaning on the windowsill, her chest going up and down in rapid tempo. One of her hands has been placed on it while shaking heavily.
Now I get it, she's having a panic attack, but why? What caused her the panic like this? Better yet how do I get her calmed down?
"Oh shit Sabrina, what's wrong",
I carefully approach her.
"Please go, I don't want you to see me like this",
her voice sounds shaky and is filled with fear.
"No I can't, you need to be calmed down",
now my heartbeat's racing.
It's not like I actually know how to calm her down. Her breath gets more and more out of control while tears float down her face faster then the pouring rain outside.
That's when I remember something mom has taught me; distraction!
Sometimes when a person is having a panic attack it can help to distract them from it. I carefully wrap an arm around Sabrina trying to get her to come with me. She hesitates at first, holding on tight to the windowsill.
"Come on I just want you to sit down with me on the bed, okay?",
I rub her bangs aside trying to see if I even have her attention.
She listens and finally lets go, we take a seat on the bed and my arm remains around her.
Now what? Okay I have an idea.
"Sabrina?",
at first she doesn't respond.
She keeps staring down while her breath keeps speeding up.
"Hee you need to breath, try this; focus on everything pink in the room while telling me what you see",
pink was the best option since nearly everything in this room has some sort of pink tone to it. The fuzzy pillows on the bed, the mirror on the wall even her vanity and the makeup on it.
"The eh... fuck... eh... no...",
Sabrina keeps crying overwhelmed with fear.
I grab her hands and squeeze em tight. They're warm and sweaty, poor thing.
Another very loud thunderclap sounds and that's when it hits me; it's the thunder causing Sabrina's panic attack.
"Please safe me, don't let it hurt me, help me please help me",
she wraps both arms around me.
It takes me by surprise causing us both to fall down on the bed.
"It's okay, it won't get to you we're safe inside",
