As soon as I got home I went to my room and changed into pajamas, cuddling into my covers. I tried to sleep but tonight it just wasn't happening. The loud rain outside was pounding against my windows. A low growl escaped my lips, directed towards Mother Nature. My phone began vibrated on my nightstand and another growl escaped my lips.
"Hello?" I grunted into the phone.
"Uh-Lexi. I didn't wake you did I?" It was Mason, his voice light and slightly nervous. I forgot I had given him my number incase he needed anything on the night of the bonfire. I set up straight in my bed.
"Mason? What's wrong?" I asked alarmed already getting out of bed and changing into leggings and a slightly nicer t-shirt.
"It's just-It's Liam. He's been acting weird lately. And tonight.." I sat down on my bed.
"What happened tonight?" I gingerly questioned, becoming concerned for the young beta.
"I think he was scared. He didn't want to be alone...I mean it's almost midnight and he wanted me to stay. Did something-Did something happen to him? Should I be worried? I was going to call Scott but-" I cut Mason off.
"No, it's good that you didn't. He has a lot going on, too. I'll, uh, I'll go check on him." I assured Mason, the overwhelming concern he had for his best friend touching my cold stone heart, or well, seemingly cold stone heart. I began pulling on my shoes.
"Okay, thank you, Lexi."
"No problem, Mason."
I hung up with Mason and slipped down the stairs, passing a sleeping Derek and Braedon cuddled on the bed, and out the door. It was pouring rain but I ignored it as I ran through mud and wet grass to Liam's. When I arrived at his front door at a quarter passed midnight, I realized his family would be asleep, so I couldn't walk or knock on the door. I circled the house, listening for Liam's distinctive heartbeat, finding it instantly. His heart was pounding quickly. Mason was right, he was scared. I jumped up to the window careful to make as little sound as possible. My hair was sticking to my face from the rain and so were my clothes. I looked through the window, and I saw Liam in bed cuddled under his covers, his chest was rising and falling rapidly. I slowly and carefully climbed in his window. I closed the window behind me and locked it.
"You're not real. You're not real. You're not real." Liam repeated aggressively, trying to convince himself that something wasn't real. I approached his bedside. His eyes were tightly shut and I contemplated how to let him know I was creepily in his room. I reached out and put my hand on his shoulder. Liam's body jumped and he let out a yelp. He grabbed my wrist on instinct his claws digging into my skin. I let out a shocked squeak in return. Once Liam realized it was me, he released my wrist and sat up.
"Lexi? What the hell are you doing here?" Liam demanded standing up and looking around at how I got in. Then he looked my over, noticing my soaking wet attire and the fact that my t-shirt clung tightly to my body. I felt slightly uncomfortable at his starring, which was unusual.
"Mason called me. He's worried about you."
"He called you?" I merely nodded in reply.
"Why not Scott?"
"Scott's busy, he has...bigger problems." I hesitated. Liam looked down.
"Liam, it's not that he doesn't care about you because he does. He just-"
"He just doesn't have time for his pathetic beta."
"That's not true!" I hissed.
"Scott is trying to juggle too many things at once. He is trying his hardest. The other member's in the pack, i.e. me, are supposed to help other members in the pack who need help, i.e. you." I continued.
