I woke up at 6 am

I woke up at 6 am. That was pretty much the usual time for me. Typically, I don't get much sleep since I'm always so on edge. However, I slept like a teenage boy last night.

I went downstairs to start making breakfast, but I saw Adrian sitting on the counter drinking a glass of water. He turned around to look at me, and his eyes softened.

"What're you doing up this early, Oaklynn?" He asked me.

"Oh I was just going to make breakfast," I said rubbing my eyes, "I'm sorry, would you like me to go back to my room? I didn't mean to intrude."

"What? Nonsense you're fine. Although usually I make breakfast, just because I'm always the one who's awake." I was distracted by Adrian's words when one of the creepy guys walked through the hallway. I've seen them since we drove through the mansion's gate. Adrian caught me staring.

"Oh those are just the guards, they won't harm you." Adrian answered my unspoken question, as if reading my mind.

I was pretty confused, since it's definitely not normal to have guards all over your property "Why do you need those?"

"Um well you see we're a pretty rich family and own quite a bit, so we attract a lot of bad people with bad intentions. But not to worry, they'll protect us." He responded

"Anyway, would you like to help me make breakfast? I was thinking about making waffles and bacon."

I nodded. "That sounds perfect."

"Great!" Adrian said, tossing me an apron. I was struggling to get it on.

"Do you want some help?" I nodded. As Adrian finished tying his, he went behind me and began tying a knot.

"Is that tight enough?" I nodded again, and he finished tying it.

"Thank you." I smiled at him. This time it wasn't forced, and I was starting to feel weird.

It is like I feel comfort, but I'm not sure.

"Okay, do you know how to make eggs?"

I nodded, and began cracking them into a bowl.

"My god this is delicious!" Grayson exclaimed, and murmurs of agreement were heard throughout the table.

I smiled to myself. This is the first time my cooking has ever been appreciated.

I ate a tiny bit of food before reaching over the table and scraping my leftovers onto Adrian's plate.

"Thank you!" His words were muffled by the mouthful of food that he was chewing.
