WHY WAS LIFE so unfair?
Just when their life seemed to get better and it wasn't simply survival anymore, at least for Treech's family and her aunt. It was finally about living. Now it was all back to zero.
The days after the Reaping Ceremony were all a blur. The only word Cassia could use was haunting. Everyone was there but at the same time, they weren't.
Hazel locked herself in her room and wouldn't let anyone in for days. When she finally did, Jude and Casi were the only ones she allowed to enter, not that anyone else even tried.
Oliver didn't know how to help, Amber didn't know if Hazel wanted her help, and Treech...He had his own issues to take care of.
Her eyes were red and her mouth dry when she rolled on her bed to face the two older girls, who stared at her with worried expressions as they sat on their knees next to the bed. "Is it my fault? That she's gone..."
Gone...Back then she wasn't gone. At least not yet.
But everyone rightfully assumed she wouldn't come back.
Jude immediately reached for her when she heard her words, cupping her wet cheeks and reassuring her.
Casi, on the other hand, didn't know what to say. She hated herself for not responding For standing up and staring at the distraught teen like a fool, unsure of what to say. She hated herself for turning the other way and going to the bathroom, instead of wrapping her arms around her to comfort her.
The new 'arena' was rough, if that place could be classified as an arena to begin with.
This year's Games took place in the middle of a mountain range. It was a pathetic attempt to keep the Games interesting. They wouldn't allow the tributes to wander off too far, still needing the proximity for the barbaric fights.
Was she doing well in the interviews? Were they keeping the tribute in the zoo like last year? Cassia was desperate to have even the slightest knowledge of what was happening to Willow. Hence, she suggested bribing the Peacekeepers to allow them to watch the live broadcast but Treech refused.
Treech did that a lot.
When Cassia wanted to talk to him, he refused. When she asked if he needed her help, he refused. When she asked if he wanted to take a walk outside, maybe climb the tree he led her to on her first night here, he refused.
