Melanie's POV:
The moment I left Mrs. Hutson's classroom I felt different. I mean yeah, my head wasn't spinning, and my heart wasn't racing anymore, my hands weren't clammy like they were...
I look down and squeeze my fists together, feeling them crack from how dry they were now that she was no longer near me.
"How am I going to get through this whole semester?!" I mutter and groan to myself as I walk through the campus courtyard, I turn back looking at the South Building knowing she's just there, sitting in her classroom.
"Ughhhhh." I close my eyes thinking back to that soft giggle and that heart stopping smile.
"She was so pretty." I sing softly to myself.
"Who was?" Kyle runs up behind me, grabbing me.
"Fuck, Kyle, you scared me! An N-n-no one" I push him off of me, as he just laughs clearly amused by how jumpy I am.
"What's got you so flustered, huh?" He teases, nudging his shoulder into mine with a huge grin on his face. "You seem distracted. Got something on your mind or is it someoneeee?" He drags out annoyingly.
"No and even if I was, it would be none of your business!" I roll my eyes, responding quickly and harshly.
Kyle holds his hands up in a mocking surrender, still grinning. "Whoa, calm down there, Feisty. I was just asking a simple question." He chuckles and starts walking off with a cocky strut.
"You're so annoying, you know that!?" I yelled at him from a distance followed by a laugh.
"No, you!" He responds clearly, proud of himself as he heads to the Western Building.
"Wow, Good one!" I chuckle and roll my eyes as I watch him leave. He's always teasing me about everything, but it's all in good fun. Still, it's annoying how much he enjoys getting under my skin.
Once he's completely out of sight, I take a deep breath and start to make my way towards the cafe before my next class. My thoughts automatically drift back to Mrs. Hutson, and that damn beautiful smile of hers.
Mrs. Hutson's POV:
I sit at my desk for a few more minutes after the class ends, sorting through papers and notes before packing my things into my bag. I'm lost in thought, still thinking about the young girl sitting in the back. Her nervous energy and the way she looked at me with those wide, curious eyes keep flashing in my mind. I sigh and zip up my bag, standing up from my desk and heading towards the door.
As I exit the classroom, I can't shake the thought of her from my mind. She was just so endearing and cute, and that beautiful golden red hair. As I step into the hallway, the sound of students bustling around me brings me back to reality. I take a deep breath and try to shake it off. It's not appropriate to feel this way about a student, regardless of how... captivating she was.
I continue down the hallway, my body on autopilot as my mind is still preoccupied. I can't believe I'm still thinking about this student this much. It's inappropriate, unprofessional, and just plain wrong. But yet, I can't help but replay her every movement, every expression in my head. It's like she was burned into my memory, and no matter how hard I try, I can't shake her presence.
I'm snapped out of my thoughts as I hear the sound of footsteps approaching me. I turn to see Mrs. Kim, one of my co-workers and closest friends, speed-walking towards me with a smile on her face.
Mrs. Kim: CLAIRE! Hey! she scurries over to me.
I smile warmly as I see Mrs. Kim approaching, her excitement evident in her hurried steps.
"Hey, Jen!" I greet her warmly, my thoughts temporarily pushed to the back of my mind for a moment. "It's good to see you. You're in a chipper mood today."
Jen grins, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Of course, I am. Can't a woman just be happy to see her bestie?" I chuckle, shaking my head at her playful attitude. She's always been like this, full of life and energy even in our forties.
She links her arm through mine, practically glued to my side as we start walking down the hall.
"So, how's your day been so far?" she asks, her voice full of curiosity. "Anything exciting happen in your first class?"
"No, not really," I reply casually, trying to sound nonchalant. "Same old, same old. Just the usual freshman nonsense, you know."
Jen gives me a suspicious look, her brow raised. "You sure there's nothing else? You seem a little distracted, you're usually happier to see me." she chuckles and nudges me.
I laugh, trying to play it off as nothing. "Distracted? Me? No, I'm just tired, that's all."
Jen scoffs, clearly not buying it, "Tired, my ass. I know you better than that. Come on, spill. What's got you all in a daze?
I roll my eyes, knowing she won't let up until I give her something. "Alright, alright. I wasn't lying when I said I was tired, but... there was this student in my class and the way she was looking at me... it just-" I cut myself short.
Jen gasps happily. "Ooooh, tell me more! Was she cute?" she asks, her eyes shining with excitement.
"She is... young." I respond firmly. "Can't be older than twenty-four."
Jen raises an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued even more. "Twenty-four, huh? Still technically an adult." She gives me a sly smile, leaning in closer to me. "And you found her cute, didn't you?"
"That doesn't matter Jen." I say softly, wanting her to drop it. She always hated that I stayed with my husband, and I can't blame her honestly. I've been with Aron since college and even then Jen was the only one to know that I was attracted to women and that I refused to explore it. Although she never stopped egging me on to just take the risk, reminding me marrying Aron was a decision I made for my parents, and just like back then in college... She was right.
Jen pouts, clearly not getting the reaction she wanted from me. "Oh, come on, don't be so closed off. Admitting she's cute won't kill you, you know."
She pokes me teasingly, still grinning like a Cheshire cat. "I can see it in your face, something about her got you all frazzled."
"God Jen, I'm done with this conversation!" I walk away shaking my head, laughing as I head to the Campus's Cafe for an afternoon coffee.
Jen calls after me, her voice filled with playful frustration. "Hey, come on! You can't keep hiding behind your marriage! Don't leave me hanging like this!"
But I just wave her off and continue towards the cafe, trying to shake off her words. I push open the door and step inside the cafe, the smell of freshly brewed coffee filling my senses.
