"Pennie!"

I suddenly wake up from my sleep; sweat beads at my forehead. I get up from my bed and head into the kitchen to grab a cup of water. I can still hear her. My sweet Billie.

I head back to my room, turn the light on and pick up my journal. I need to let it out. It's the only way for me to move on even if I don't want to but I need to.

So I write and write, never letting my pencil stop. There are so many things that I could write about her, for her, to her; it's all I ever think about. And then that's when I remembered one day we spent together, possibly the best day ever.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey Billie?" I ask as I'm grabbing my bag and keys.

"Hey Pennie?" she answers with a goofy grin and I couldn't help but smile.

"Do you wanna go to the beach?" I ask.

"DUH!!! I'm going to go grab my suit!" she runs to her room. I go to the small kitchen we have. I head to the cabinets and fridge to grab a few drinks and snacks: water bottles, some Capri-suns, some cut up watermelons and crackers/chips.

"Ready." she says. Shes wearing the yellow sundress on top of her bathing suit and two towels under her arm.

"Did you put sunscreen on?" I ask.

"Of course! Sun burns suck and they hurt!" she exclaims. I started to laugh the last time she got a sun burn she was redder than a tomato! she used 1and 1/2 bottles of aloe lotion; she peeled for a week after that.

"Lets go!" I say and we head into moms Mazda. She slips into the passenger seat as I put my seat belt on; she does the same.

Half way to the beach our favorite song comes on the radio, "Everybody Talks" by Neon Trees. I blast up the radio and put the windows down. With the wind blowing through our hair and us singing at the top of our lungs, we were the ones being looked at as we drove down the street making our way around the parking lot for the beach. Billies smiling eyes were the best! You couldn't do anything else but smile back.

Finally well after the song ended we found parking and hurried to the beach to find a spot.

"How about this spot Pennie?" she asks pointing the perfect spot on the sand close enough to see the ocean but not to close to get wet easily by the oncoming waves; plus, there weren't much people to bother us.

"Perfect." I say and we begin to lay down the towels. We both step out of our covers up, mine was just some shorts and tank top and her yellow sundress. We run towards the shore and begin swimming out a bit further. I feel a splash come across my face, getting into my eyes. I turn around to find Billie trying her best not to laugh but does anyway.

"Oh no you don't!" I say and make waves of water with my hands and splash it on her. She covers her face and screams.

We continue our war for the next fifteen minutes and head back to where we were sitting. I took a swig of water while Billie ate pieces of watermelon, staring out into the ocean.

"Sunset is coming soon. Can we stay to watch it?" she asks, still staring into the ocean.

"Of course." I say, turning to stare out into the ocean.

The next hour we went back into the ocean, build sand castles and collected a bucket full of shells. Until finally the sunset started to begin; we sat up on our towels and stared out into the sunset. The colors of purples and oranges leak into the sky. The sun slowly sinking into the earth. It feels so surreal and magical. We were both mind blown.

"It's so beautiful." I hear Billie whisper.

"Sure is." I say. I turn to pull out my journal and begin to write something that popped into my head.

I feel the warmth retreating

I see the light diminishing

And I look up, to find the sun setting.

Its swirling shades of purples and oranges sink into the earth

Now only rays are peaking from our beautiful sun,

signaling an end to a day.

However, one ending brings a new beginning

Our iridescent moon takes its place

Bringing its friends that we know as stars

And now our night sky is all that we see.

Natures beauty is not what it seams

But even better when you know where it peaks.

I sign and date it.

"Can I see it?" Billie asks. I hand it to her and look back up. The night sky is quickly taking over the sky.

"It's perfect," she says passing it back to me,"as always of course." she adds. I smile.

"Alright. Lets pack up." I say putting back my shorts and tank top on. We fold the towels and head back to the car.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I smile at the memory and turn to the page in my journal where I wrote it. Sand was still present, hidden within the binding. I then notice writing on the corner of the page, too small to have notice before; it was in Billies hand writing. I gasp and hurry to see what it says.

Hey Pennie! Thanks for the best day. This is my favorite one by the way! I love you Pennie!

Tears spring to my eyes. I smile.

"I love you, too Billie." I whisper.
