As I made my way into the classroom I find Hayden hunched over his notebook writing away. I slid into the chair next to him. "Hey." I said. He looks up and I find his moonlight eyes stare right back at me with that amazing smile radiating back towards me. My heart skips a beat.
"Hi." he says. We stare at each other for what seems like forever, even though I wished it was and could be.
"So hows the high school doing you so far?" he says still holding my gaze.
"Great, lots of homework but I seem to attract two students name Sam and Giselle or Gigi. They're pretty cool. I'm grateful that I didn't have to go hunting down people just to "survive" the transition from moving schools especially since my sister died." My eyes grew wide. Did I just tell him that? I barely knew him but still I just told him the one thing that's really got me to this solemn state in the first place. I look away and stare at my hands praying that I don't start crying in front of him of all people.
To my surprise he gives me a hug. He's warm and makes sure that I fully grasp whats going on here; that he just wanted to comfort me. I fit perfectly into his embrace.
"Its alright. It wasn't your fault. I can see that you really loved her. She'd wan't you to move on, not isolate yourself. I lost my little brother too. He lost the battle to cancer but he lived it out three years more to when the doctor thought was his expiration date. But were're glad we were able to get that much extra time with him. He always knew what to say." he says.
This time it was my turn to hug him.
"I'm glad you were able to have that time with him." I say. My eyes begin to water but quickly blinked them away.
"Yes. I've never told anybody how I really felt about his death. I'm glad I'm sharing some of it with you." he says and the exposes a smile revealing a dimple that shows on his right cheek.
"Same here." returning him a smile just as pure.
"If you don't mind me asking, what was her name?" he asks.
"Her name was Billie," she says, "what was your brother's?"
"His name was Alex." he says.
The rest of class wen't by more quickly than I would of wanted. Right before I wen't through the door, Hayden grabbed me by the elbow. I turn and see this sneaky smile on his face.
"Sam and Gigi aren't the only people that you attracted." he says and walks through the door.
"Oh boy." she whispered to herself.
