Ep. 4 - I Plunge to My Death

Percy's memory flashed before his eyes. Where he hugged his mother in the pool at that swimming class. And then that whistle. The whistle that snapped him into the sand dunes. The voice started talking and it weaved fear into his veins. The sand behind dropped before Percy opened his eyes.

Grover was snoring intensely on the top bunk. Percy started contemplating waking either Dylan or Annabeth up and just decided to go with either one because nothing could hurt that much. "Hey, you asleep?"

He got one of two replies. A no from Dylan and no response from Annabeth. He shifted on his little bed cot and smiled to himself. "So, what happened?"

Dylan sighed and stared at the ceiling. She hated remembering the past. "What?"

"Like, Luke didn't tell me everything and I didn't want to hear it from him," Percy replied, trying to find out more about Dylan.

"Yeah. Luke doesn't like telling it. I know he's trying to protect me, but I don't need his protection. I've got it all handled,"

"You and Luke are close aren't you guys?"

Dylan smiled to herself remembering the two kisses they shared recently. She missed Luke and wished Iris message him. "He was my only friend when I got to camp. He practically put himself between me and Clarisse and everyone else. I don't know why, but he just did,"

"When he gave me the shoes, he asked me to protect you. But you're way better at fighting than me and I think you're gonna be the one protecting me,"

"What do you mean?" Dylan shifted in the bed, pulling the sheets close to her. The second Dylan had entered Medusa's home she started to realize how dangerous quest were. She was practically reliving her past and she didn't want to. If she had to protect herself and Percy it was going to be a lot harder then she thought. She knew Annabeth could protect herself along with Grover, but Percy was something else. He was something else.

"You're the best athlete at camp and that's one of the main reason I asked Chiron to send you to join us,"

"Wait you personally asked Chiron to have me join you with your quest? Why?" Dylan questioned titling her head in the pillow. Percy had asked Chiron to have Dylan escort them on his quest because he knew he couldn't do it alone without her, but he could only take two other quest mates. He grappled with the question until he had asked Chiron if he could possible have Dylan escort them. He wanted an escort and a protector. With both a escort and a protector he knew he'd be protected and get his mother home safely.

"Yeah. Because I just have this feeling. I don't know. There's just something about this whole quest that...that just feels crooked," Percy answered, shifting. Dylan nodded in agreement although Percy couldn't see her in the dark. She was about to fall asleep when Percy spoke up. "Did you ever know Thalia?"

"No. But Annabeth she mention little things about Thalia and her forbidden child life. How when Luke and Thalia found Annabeth, Luke cared for her but Thalia made her work for work for their friendship. Luke did the exact same thing. He cared for me, but...but Annabeth she pushed. She worked me harder, so that's when Luke pushed me. He trained me, made me earn my skill. He could always best me in combat but I got better and I have to thank Luke for that,"

"You're not a forbidden kid are you?" Percy asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Me? Ha. No, never. If I was, then I'd already be dead. I would have been dead the second I went into the pizza shop," Dylan scoffed, before laughing and staring at the pitch darkness. She wanted to be claimed and she wanted to know her father. She wanted to ask why her father didn't want her and almost let her die. Almost die in the streets of New York.
