chapter song:
Family Line - Conan Gray

Y/n perfectly cut her Nutella toast into four triangles.

She noted in her mind that Severus was no where to be seen. Her and Severus were quite close, probably the only person Severus had ever gotten close to was y/n, other than Lily Evans of course. These days he spent all his time in his dorm, like he was trying to plot something. Y/n would bet all the galleons in the world that it's revenge on James Potter and his posse. Severus was the victim to most of their pranks.

"Why do you even do that? It's so weird..." Archie grumbled, staring at her plate.

"Would you rather I eat this like a sloppy pig?"
Y/n questioned, feeling rather grumpy due to needing to be awake early in the morning. She had to be up and ready at four in the morning for quidditch practice. Their quidditch captain Emma Vanity refused to let them ever lose a minute to sleep.

"Hm, yes, yes I would prefer that!" Archie filled his mouth with scrambled eggs.

"Would you two shut up, I have the worst headache ever!" Regulus exclaimed, his head lying on the table.

"Was working with Sirius that bad?" Y/n questioned. She knew his headache was from quidditch practice as well, but the two of them never missed an opportunity to blame their misfortunes on Sirius Black.

"Yes it was, if you must know. He bossed me around as if I wasn't the one taking the class a year early. Him and your stupid half blood friend Lupin teamed up on me, had me copying down notes and doing nothing good."

"I'm so glad I'm not in advanced double potions. We're doing baby work compared to this. We're in mixed pairs too, I'm with Ambrose Zabini. She is the coolest Hufflepuff ever. They just have us sorting and classifying complex potion ingredients."
Archie's voice was muffled as it was full with food.
"And I'm glad I'm no good at quidditch either. Quite the stereotype, me not being fit. Sucks for you guys though."
He chuckled, mouth still full.

Regulus rolled his eyes.

"What potion did you guys end up settling on, anyways?" Y/n inquired.

"Veritaserum." Regulus smirked. "I actually had a say in that much. The two gits were all over each other, didn't even pay attention when I picked out all the books. What about you and Potter. Bet that was no fun."

"Amortentia. He was annoying at times but honestly, we kinda did well together, oddly?"
Y/n's gaze shifted to the Gryffindor table next to her, her eyes landing on a pair of hazel eyes that were already watching her. The eyes behind those glasses quickly shifted away. Y/n did the same.

"I'm shocked, Potter is bloody annoying. Can't be worse than my brother though."

"Yeah. Bloody annoying," y/n agreed, shifting her focus back on her Nutella toast.

Transfigurations was a class y/n looked forward to. She was quite good at the subject, and enjoyed Professor McGonagall's way of teaching. She was fair. Had no fear of taking points away from her own house, and didn't take an ungodly amount from other houses.

McGonagall was demonstrating a complex spell of turning hair brushes into phoenixes. From the opposite end of the room of y/n, James could not focus. He couldn't help but watch y/n as she took notes, focused intently on Professor McGonagall.

Sirius nudged James, noticing his distraction. "Oi, mate. What's got you so fascinated over there? Ah, Evans, isn't it?" He gestured to the redhead that sat next to y/n.
