chapter song:
Meet Me At Our Spot - WILLOWThe second week arrived with a buzz of excitement as the Gryffindor vs. Slytherin Quidditch match approached. The rivalry was fierce, and despite their silence, James and y/n communicated through quick notes and expressive gestures. On the day of the match, the atmosphere was electric.
At this point, James and y/n had created their own sign language that no one else understood. Random gestures and hand positions seemed crazy to others, but just made sense to the pair. The inseparable Slytherin and Gryffindor continued to shock students and professors with the fact that not only they merely tolerated each other, but spent just about every moment together, every class they spent together working alongside one another, by choice and not force, getting caught pulling harmless pranks. They were an unstoppable force.
The stands were packed with students, all eager to see the showdown. Remus, Peter, Archie and Ellis were in the stands, their eyes following the players with intense concentration. Remus and Peter were clad in Gryffindor red and gold while Archie and Ellis sported Slytherin green and silver, despite Ellis being in Hufflepuff. The four still sat together anyways, Peter clutching his chalk board.
As the game began, y/n soared into the sky, her eyes fixed on James. The silent rivalry only made their relationship more exciting. She flew with precision, determined to outplay him. Sirius, wielding his bat with precision, guarded the field as Beater, while Regulus hovered with hawk-like focus, searching for the Snitch.
James flew with his usual confidence, passing the Quaffle to a fellow chaser, Alice Fortescue. Y/n intercepted the pass with a swift move, her eyes scanning for an opening. She darted around Marcus Wood, the third Gryffindor chaser, and hurled the Quaffle towards the goalposts. Frank Longbottom lunged, but y/n's aim was true, and the ball soared through the hoop.
The Slytherin stands erupted in cheers, and y/n exchanged a triumphant grin with James. Despite their silence, their competitive spirit was palpable.
The game continued with fierce back-and-forth action. Gryffindor's Chasers were relentless, but Slytherin's defense, led by y/n and her teammates, held strong. Sirius's powerful swings deflected Bludgers aimed at his teammates, and the game grew more intense with each passing minute.
The game was close, but Slytherin held the lead. Marlene and Regulus both searched desperately for the golden snitch.
James and y/n spent half the game sending hand signals to each other that the announcer, Angelo Jordan tried hopelessly to translate.
Regulus, eyes narrowed, suddenly dove towards the ground. Y/n's heart pounded as she realized Regulus had spotted the snitch. With a burst of speed, he chased after it, his reflexes sharp. Regulus reached out and snatched the snitch, ending the game with a Slytherin victory.
Despite the loss, James and y/n exchanged respectful nods with each other and their opposing teams. They had given it their all, and both teams had shown great skill.
That night, y/n and James wandered the halls, taking advantage of y/n's Prefect status to avoid trouble. Their silent companionship was comforting, and they found solace in each other's presence.
While exploring the halls and desperately hoping for a private place to sit in silence they had discovered the Room of Requirement. To their amazement, the room transformed to meet their needs—a cozy space filled with y/n's favorite books, James's preferred snacks, plush cushions, sofas, beds, and hammocks, everything they could ever need.
James watched with love in his eyes as y/n passionately wrote down everything she'd read about the Room of Requirement
'This place is amazing!' James had scribbled, tapping his board to show y/n.
'Oh my Godric, it has every book I've ever loved, James!!!' Y/n had quickly written this down then left her board with James to explore the walls of books, touching each spine to take in their stories.
James couldn't help but simply watch her.
'She's so amazing...'
They spent countless hours in their newfound sanctuary, communicating through their chalkboards, sharing quiet moments of laughter, and growing closer.
James and y/n had decided to spend their time together writing on paper, so they could look back on all that was said.
Their fingers brushed as they passed notes, and there was a multitude of times that James had looked down at her lips and nearly pulled her in for a kiss.
Instead, they spent their time lying together in their cushioned areas and hammocks, doing homework, reading, often James would just hold y/n from behind when she'd read till she'd fall asleep. She'd lay there in his arms, enjoying the comfort of being held, of someone protecting her.
In the silent comfort of the Room of Requirement, y/n and James found a place where they could be themselves, away from the pressures and expectations of the outside world.
No one could bother them here.
