chapter song:
All the Young Dudes - Mott The HoopleTwo weeks had passed since their last encounter in the astronomy tower. It was now the middle of November.
The cool night air whispered through the astronomy tower as y/n and James meticulously worked on perfecting their Amortentia potion. The tension from their past argument still lingered, but they were determined to set it aside and focus on their project. The starry sky above them served as a reminder of the vastness of the world, putting their troubles into perspective.
"I think we've got it," James said, his voice tinged with excitement as he carefully added the final ingredient. The potion swirled with iridescent colors, giving off the distinctive scent of Amortentia.
Y/n leaned closer, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "It does look perfect. We did it, James."
James couldn't help but grin. "Yeah, we did. Despite everything."
They shared a quiet moment of triumph, their earlier tensions momentarily forgotten in the success of their hard work. As they cleaned up their materials, James glanced at y/n, his expression softening.
"Do you remember the last time we were here for the project?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Y/n nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "How could I forget? It was one of the best nights I've ever had."
James moved closer, his hand brushing against hers. "I'm sorry for everything that happened afterward. I never meant to hurt you."
Y/n looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and affection. "I know, James. I know you didn't. But it still hurt."
They stood in silence for a moment, the weight of their words hanging in the air. Then, y/n reached out and took James's hand, squeezing it gently.
"Let's not dwell on the past," she said softly. "We're here now, and that's what matters."
James nodded, a grateful smile spreading across his face. "You're right. And I'm glad we're here together."
As they continued to work on their potion, their conversation shifted to lighter topics. They laughed and teased each other, the warmth of their friendship slowly mending the rift that had formed between them.
"Do you think Slughorn will be impressed?" Y/n asked, stirring the potion carefully.
James chuckled. "If he isn't, he must be losing his touch. This is our best work yet."
Y/n smiled, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. "I'm just glad we did it together."
James's gaze softened as he looked at her. "Me too, y/n. Me too."
They finished their work and cleaned up their materials, the night air growing cooler as the hours passed. James glanced at y/n, his expression thoughtful.
"Do you want to get some fresh air? The night is beautiful, and I think we could both use a break," he suggested.
Y/n nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "That sounds perfect."
They descended the tower and slipped out into the courtyard, the full moon casting a serene glow over the grounds. The night was peaceful, the cool air refreshing after their intense potion-making session.
As they strolled through the courtyard, their conversation flowed easily, a mix of laughter and serious discussion about their past argument. James apologized again, and y/n reassured him that she understood his intentions, even if they had caused some hurt.
