(Damien POV)

The mansion's walls were my refuge, my secret world hidden from everyone, including Y/N. I moved silently through the narrow passages, each step familiar from countless nights spent here. The cool stone and aged wood were like old friends, offering me both sanctuary and solace.

They shielded me from the outside world and, more importantly, kept my presence unknown to Y/N. My heart thudded quietly in my chest as I approached the peephole that overlooked her room.

I had carved out this small opening long ago, a portal through which I could observe her without being seen. I pressed my eye to the tiny gap and there she was, bathed in the soft glow of her chandelier, her every move as graceful and captivating as ever.

Must be quiet.

Can't let her hear me.

She can never know I'm here.

My heart thudded as I approached the peephole overlooking her room. I pressed my eye to the tiny gap and there she was, bathed in soft light, her every move captivating.

Beautiful.

Perfect.

Mine to protect, even if she doesn't know it.

"Another restless night," I thought, watching her pace. "What's troubling you, my love? If only I could comfort you..."

No.

Stay hidden.

She's safer not knowing.

I'm doing this for her.

She paused by the window, lost in thought. I longed to reach out, to tell her she wasn't alone. She wore a simple nightgown, its delicate fabric clinging to her form as she moved. Her hair, usually so meticulously styled, hung loose and free around her shoulders, giving her an air of vulnerability that made my chest tighten.

I longed to step out from behind these walls, to offer her comfort and companionship. But that was impossible. My place was here, in the shadows, where I could keep her safe without her ever knowing I existed.

Always watching.

Always here.

You'll never be truly alone, Y/N.

"You're stronger than you know," I willed her to sense my support. "Whatever it is, you'll get through it. I'll make sure of it."

I'd do anything to keep you safe.

Anything.

As she settled into her armchair to read, I shifted uncomfortably. I shifted slightly, trying to find a more comfortable position in the cramped space. The walls were cold and unyielding, but they were my home, the only place where I could be close to her without bringing more questions than answers.

Time seemed to slow as I watched her, each moment stretched out in the quiet of the night. She was so absorbed in her book, her lips moving silently as she read. I imagined her voice, soft and soothing, filling the room with the cadence of the words on the page.

Small price to pay.

Discomfort means nothing if it keeps me close to her.

"You find solace in those stories," I mused. "I wish I could be the one to bring you peace."

Someday.

Someday I'll reveal myself.

When the time is right. When she needs me most.

As the hours passed, her eyes grew heavy. The book slipped from her grasp, falling softly onto her lap. I watched her drift into sleep, her breathing steady and calm, the firelight dancing across her serene face. There was a tranquility in these moments, a fragile peace that I wanted to protect at all costs.

So peaceful.

So vulnerable.

She needs me to protect her.

"Sleep well, Y/N," I murmured. "I'll be here, watching over you. Always."

Never leaving.

Never abandoning my post.

She's mine to guard.

As dawn approached, I reluctantly retreated deeper into the walls.

But the first light of dawn was beginning to creep into the sky, and I knew my time was running short. I couldn't afford to be caught here, not even in the quiet hours of early morning. With a reluctant sigh, I pulled away from the peephole and retreated into the deeper shadows of the hidden passages.

Navigating back through the narrow corridors, my mind was a whirl of emotions. Every night, I wrestled with the same conflict—wanting to be more than just an unseen guardian, but knowing that to step out of the shadows would be to disrupt the fragile balance that kept her safe.

"This is enough," I told myself, ignoring the ache in my chest. "I'm keeping her safe. That's all that matters."

Mine to protect.

Mine to watch.

Mine.

In the darkness, I found a twisted comfort. This was my purpose, my calling.

Someday she'll understand.

Someday she'll thank me.

Someday we'll be together.

And with that final thought, I settled into my hidden vigil, waiting to return to my eternal watch over Y/N.
