After lunch, Damian returned with my phone in his hand. He sat down next to me, casually scrolling through it as if it were his own. My heart raced with a mix of fear and anger.

"Look at this," he said, showing me the screen. "All these missed messages and calls. People really are worried about you."

I could see notifications from friends, family, colleagues—all asking where I was, if I was okay. My heart ached to respond, to let them know I was still alive.

They're looking for me.

They haven't given up.

The thought gave me a sliver of hope amidst the despair.

"Of course," Damian continued, "I had to change my plans. Originally, I was just going to kill you and sign everything over to the state. Clean, simple. But then I saw how much people cared about you. How much they loved you."

He looked at me, his eyes gleaming with a twisted admiration. "So I had to adjust. Now, we're going to live out your grandparents' legacy. Together."

"You're a fucking parasite!" I spat, my voice trembling with rage.

"I know," he said, a smile spreading across his face. "Isn't it amazing?"

He's enjoying this.

He's reveling in the terror he's causing.

It sickened me to my core.

"The way he talks about my grandparents... as if he understands them. As if he's continuing their work." The absurdity of it all threatened to overwhelm me.

"You see," he went on, "I always knew I was different. Special. And when I found out about your family's secrets, I realized I had found my purpose. To bring those secrets to light. To fulfill your grandparents' true vision."

"By kidnapping and torturing me?" I retorted. "By playing house in this nightmare?"

He laughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the room. "Oh, darling, you don't understand. This is just the beginning. Once we unlock the full potential of this mansion, you'll see. You'll understand."

He's planning more. There's no end to his madness.

Fear clawed at my throat, threatening to choke me.

"You see, your grandparents had a dream," Damian continued, oblivious to my internal turmoil. "They wanted to create a sanctuary. A place where knowledge and power could be preserved and harnessed. And now, with you by my side, we can make that dream a reality."

He's using their dream to justify his own sick desires.

The realization made me feel sick to my stomach.

He placed the phone down on the table, out of my reach. "But first, we need to build trust. We need to work together."

Work together?

How can he expect me to cooperate?

Anger surged through me, fueling a desperate need to break free.

"Trust?" I said, incredulous. "You think I could ever trust you after what you've done?"

"You will," he said confidently. "In time, you'll see that this is the only way. That I am the only one who can protect you, who truly understands you."

Never. I'll never trust him.

I'll find a way to escape, no matter what.

Defiance hardened my resolve.

"I will never trust you. Never."

Damian's smile faded, replaced by a cold, calculating look. "We'll see," he said quietly. "We have plenty of time to change your mind."

With that, he stood up and walked to the door, turning back one last time. "Rest up, darling. We have a lot of work ahead of us."

He's confident now, but I won't give in.

I'll find a way. I have to.

As the door closed behind him, a renewed sense of determination settled over me.
