I woke up the next morning to the sound of Maia rummaging around in the kitchen. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I made my way downstairs to investigate.

"Oh my god, glazed duck stuffed with a word that doesn't sound like English? Why couldn't I be born rich?" Maia exclaimed, her head buried in the fridge.

I chuckled, leaning against the doorframe. "Trust me, you don't want these problems."

Maia emerged from the fridge, a triumphant grin on her face. "Meeting your parents for that hour aged me ten years. I think I have crow's feet now."

"Oh my god, I think I see it," I teased, earning a playful shove from Maia.

"Ha ha, very funny," she grumbled, but I could see the amusement in her eyes.

As we finished our breakfast, Maia and I decided to explore the rest of the manor. We wandered through the grand halls, marveling at the ornate furniture and antique decor.

"Wow, if you just sell the furniture, we could be set for life," Maia said, running her fingers along the polished wood of an intricate armoire.

"I don't know if I can sell it," I admitted. "Sometimes in wills, they won't let you sell anything for the sake of the family name."

Maia pouted. "Well, if you do decide to keep this junk, let me be a part of it."

"It's antiques, not junk," I corrected her, rolling my eyes.

"Rich people junk," Maia retorted, sticking out her tongue.

In the middle of our conversation, my phone suddenly started blowing up with incoming calls and messages.

"You think your parents got your phone number from that fake?" Maia asked, eyeing the device warily.

I sighed, nodding. "Sadly, yeah. I just wish I could turn back time and return the favor."

Maia's eyes gleamed with mischief. "Ooh, what kind of things was she into that the rich parents didn't agree with?"

"Oh my god, what didn't she do? Secret boyfriends, lying, at one point I thought she was on pure booger sugar," I groaned, running a hand through my hair.

"Dang, were you in on it too?" Maia asked, her brow furrowed.

"Nope, she got caught and blamed the whole thing on me," I admitted, feeling a twinge of resentment.

"And you FORGAVE HER?" Maia exclaimed, her eyes wide.

"Yeah, I know, I know. It's just that she calmed down and got married. I really thought for a second she changed," I said, shaking my head.

Maia reached for my phone, a determined look on her face. "No, she just changed the fact that she wasn't showing it around you." She quickly blocked and deleted the calls and messages. "No more stress in your now rich life."

I smiled gratefully at her. "Thanks."

"No problem. Now, let's eat some rich people's food and desserts," Maia said, already heading back towards the kitchen.

I followed her, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. As we were enjoying our decadent treats, there was a sudden knock at the front door.

Exchanging a curious glance with Maia, I made my way to the entrance and pulled it open, only to be greeted by a handsome young man.

"Hello, I'm your new neighbor," he said, flashing me a warm smile. "I just wanted to come by and welcome you to the neighborhood. I brought a few housewarming gifts as well."

He held out a basket filled with an assortment of gourmet treats and a bottle of expensive-looking wine.

"Oh, um, thank you," I stammered, caught off guard by his unexpected arrival and charming demeanor.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," he continued, extending his hand. "I'm Damien, and I live just down the road. Please, let me know if there's anything I can do to help you settle in."

I shook his hand, feeling a slight flutter in my chest. "I'm Y/N. It's nice to meet you too."

Damien's gaze lingered on me for a moment, and I couldn't help but feel a slight blush creep up my cheeks.

"Well, I'll let you get back to unpacking," he said, flashing me one last dazzling smile before turning to leave. "I'm sure I'll be seeing you around."

As I closed the door, Maia appeared at my side, a mischievous grin on her face.

"Ooh, looks like you've got a new admirer," she teased, nudging me playfully.

I rolled my eyes, but couldn't help the small smile that tugged at the corners of my lips. "Shut up and help me put these gifts away."
