Mingi stirred a little, his eyes remaining closed despite his rising consciousness. Someone was awake and entering the room but he couldn't be sure who until a hand covered his mouth and he could see in the dark, the thin figure telling him to be quiet. Mingi nodded and got up, slipping his boots on and following Wooyoung out of the room and onto the main deck. He was surprised to find San, Yeosang, and Jongho already there.
"What is this about?" Mingi rubbed his eyes, trying to wake up even more. Wooyoung swatted at his hand and shoved a small bag into his arms.
"We never leave a man behind" He stated. Mingi stared at the bag and then at Wooyoung, slowly understanding what the non-royal was trying to say.
"Don't you want to go instead? He's your best friend" Mingi pushed the bag back to Wooyoung.
"That's true but all of us know how you feel about him. Yunho needs you more than us right now" Wooyoung shoved the bag towards Mingi again. Mingi looked at it, slowly picking up the bag and looking at its contents. Rope, matches and bread that was definitely stolen from the kitchen. A lot of bread.
"Are you sure? One of you can come with me" Mingi offered. He was sure that someone was going to accept but they all shook their heads after a moment.
"We need to stay here and keep Hongjoong off your back. Just be safe. And come back to us soon, with Yunho" Yeosang explained, putting a hand on Mingi's shoulder. He had not expected the taller man to pull him into a hug, but he wasn't arguing and hugged back.
"I'll miss you guys" Mingi mumbled.
"You're not dying, Mingi. You'll be back" Yeosang laughed but it was clear that he didn't believe his own words. That was when it fully set in that there was a chance Mingi, and Yunho, might not come back. Jongho looked up at the sun.
"You should get going before Captain wakes up" He stated. Mingi nodded, shouldering his bag of supplies and walking over to the ramp. The ship had stopped on a little island the night before to rest after the storm, and after losing Yunho. There was a good chance that Yunho could be on this island so that was where Mingi would start.
"Good luck!" Wooyoung yelled to him, all of them waving as Mingi walked off to see if there had been any random guys washing up on the island. That was the best way to start if he was going to find Yunho.
"He's not coming back for a long time, is he?" Yeosang guessed, still waving but his hand was now slowly lowering until he finally dropped his hand to his side.
"No" Jongho wrapped his arm around Yeosang, pulling the older into his side. Yeosang rested his head on Jongho's shoulder, watching Mingi go. None of them knew when they would see him or Yunho again so they were just going to have to wait patiently and keep Hongjoong and Seongwha from going crazy at the actions taken behind their backs. That was going to be a struggle in itself but at least it would keep the younger four occupied for a while.
"Where's Mingi?" Seongwha looked at the four sitting down at the table mounted on the wall. None of them answered or even looked at him. Hongjoong paused too, looking up from his own dish. It was the first meal they'd had sitting all together but of course, there were two empty seats.
"Boys, where's Mingi?" Hongjoong asked, already tired of the silence. Once again, it was quiet.
"If I have to ask again, there'll be trouble" Hongjoong warned.
"We left him on the island" Yeosang answered, keeping his head down. Seongwha dropped his spoon in his bowl. Hongjoong folded his hands, covering his mouth as he rested his elbows on the table and stared at Wooyoung.
"This was your idea, wasn't it?" He guessed.
"No!" Wooyoung answered sharply, frustrated at being accused so easily. Hongjoong didn't look convinced.
"Actually, it was mine" Jongho admitted, lifting his head. Hongjoong was clearly surprised by that. This did not seem like something that Jongho would even encourage.
"We all know how much Mingi cared for Yunho. It only seemed fitting that he be the one to find him" Jongho explained, hoping that would make things better. Hongjoong was silent, thinking and processing. Seongwha looked close to tears.
"We're sorry for going behind your backs but we couldn't just give up on Yunho without even trying to look for him. It would feel wrong" San pointed out.
"More wrong than possibly sending your cousin to his death?" Hongjoong snapped, getting up and leaving. The others all watched him go. Seongwha turned back to the younger pirates and slowly got up.
"He's just frustrated. I understand why you did it, but you have to see his side of things. He's tried hard to protect all of you. This is a tough blow for him" Seongwha reasoned, slowly backing out the door and then turning and going to Hongjoong to calm him down.
"And we're just trying to keep Yunho alive" Wooyoung responded softly, knowing that he wasn't heard but that was fine. He didn't need to be. San hugged him, all of them feeling a little bad for their actions but also knowing that it was for the better and not a single one of them felt any regret for it.
"Did we do the right thing?" Wooyoung questioned, sounding a little uncertain.
"Of course we did. Now eat" San nodded once, taking a bite of his breakfast which led the others into doing the same very slowly. They could hear the oldest two talking softly, and somewhat tensely, in the Captain's quarters. All four tried not to eavesdrop but it was hard not to. Still, they only heard bits and pieces and not enough to assume the whole conversation.
"Please let Mingi and Yunho be okay" Yeosang closed his eyes, muttering under his breath. There was no response to that but the others all heard him and had no idea what to say so they just kept eating.
