Detective Chance Chancellor took a deep breath before knocking on Sharon's door. The autopsy results for Rey had come in and the young detective thought it would be best if Sharon heard them from him. He switched into police mode when he heard the door open. "Chance? Hi, come on in." Sharon invited her late husband's partner in with a smile. "What brings you by?"
"I wish this was a social call, but it's police business." Chance answered with a serious expression. The coffee house owner tensed up as she sat down on the couch. Detective Chancellor sat next to her. "The autopsy results for Rey are in and I wanted you to hear them from me. You need to know what really happened. I know it's been bothering you."
"Yes. I just can't imagine what happened that night. Rey was such a good driver. Thank you Chance." The blonde braced herself, grabbed Chance's hands and said "I'm ready. Tell me."
Clearing his throat the detective launched into the explanation, "The official cause of death is cardiac arrest. Rey had a massive heart attack behind the wheel. That's why he lost control of the car, he was already dead." Sharon sat in stunned silence. A heart attack? But Rey was so young and healthy, how could he have a heart attack? She was about to ask him when Chance continued, "The tests revealed that his heart had been severely weakened. Weakened by poison, the poison that Chelsea used when she was trying to frame Adam."
Sharon's head snapped up in a rage,"That bitch and her stupid, petty jealousy is the reason my husband is dead!" she screamed. "I want her to suffer for this." She shot up from the couch ready to go confront Chelsea. Chance had to grab her to stop her from making a terrible mistake. The exhausted coffee house owner broke down in Chance's arms. He was trying to comfort her when Nick walked.
"What's going on?" Nick asked, confused. Sharon gave Chance permission to tell Nicholas the autopsy results, she couldn't bring herself to say the truth out loud just yet. Her ex-husband was stunned, he had no idea the poison could do that much damage. "What happens now?" He asked his brother-in-law. Sharon turned her attention to Chance, very interested in his answer.
Chance took a deep breath before replying, "Well, the original plea deal is invalid, the charges have escalated. Chelsea will be charged with manslaughter, Christine's already decided. Whether or not she goes to jail is up in the air right now. At the very least she's going back to Fairview"
"So, she has no chance of weaseling her way out of this?" Sharon asked. There was no way that Chelsea could be responsible for a police officer's death and get away with it. This made Sharon feel better and she thanked Chance for letting her know. He nodded and quickly left; he had some thinking to do. Nick took his place comforting Sharon. They both hated to admit it, but being in each other's arms again felt good, too good.
GCPD Headquarters
Chance stormed into the police headquarters and sat down at his desk. He put his head in hands and took deep calming breaths. Even though she did not mean it, Chelsea was partially responsible for Rey's death. He would have to arrest her, that would have been awkward enough, but due to recent events the awkward level had hit the roof. The young detective thought back over the past couple of months and was filled with regret.
He was having drinks at the Dive Bar and Chelsea was there. They started talking, her about how lonely she was and him about how disconnected from his own life he felt. One thing led to another and before he knew it, he was naked in her bed. He regretted it the moment it was over, they both agreed to never speak of it again. But it kept happening and neither of them could explain why. What had started as a one time mistake soon became a nightly occurrence. Some nights, he didn't go home at all; making Abby think he was hard at work trying to solve a case.
