Connor Newman slammed the bedroom door of his room at the main house. His mind was swimming with so many different thoughts and emotions; it was hard to keep everything straight. 'How could Johnny and Christian be his brothers? How could Mom and Dad just let their kids be raised by other people?' It just didn't make sense to the young boy. Nothing about any of this made sense.
The big question Connor had though was the timing, why tell him this now? Something had to make his dad spill the beans, but he couldn't figure out what. A loud knock at the door startled him. "Connor? Connor, it's grandpa. Are you okay?" Victor asked.
"I'm fine Grandpa. I just want to be alone." Connor shouted out hoping his grandfather would get the message. He must have because he could hear the old man's footsteps going back down the hall away from his bedroom. Letting out a sigh of relief the soon to be sixth grader flopped down on his bed. Pulling out his phone, he pondered on if he should text Johnny, but he didn't know what to say. Plus, he didn't want to be the one to tell the older boy if he didn't know. Sighing in frustration he threw the phone on the bed and stared at his ceiling lost in thought.
His phone pinged signaling that he had received a text message. Nervously, Connor flipped over the phone to see who had texted him. That nervousness turned to annoyance when he saw it was his father who had texted him. Connor, I know that you're hurt and angry. I don't blame you, just like I understand why you need some space. I'm here for you whenever you're ready to talk. I love you always. Dad.
Connor stared at the message with a blank expression. The anger and betrayal was brewing on the surface, but a new feeling was starting to form, a warm feeling. He knew it must be killing his father to not run up to the main house and try to fix everything immediately; Adam Newman wasn't known for his patience afterall. Still, Adam was putting his frustration aside to give Connor the space he needed to process everything and the young boy respected his father for it.
His phone pinged again, this time it was his mother. The conflicting emotions he was currently feeling were joined by another one, panic. Connor had been avoiding his runaway mother since her first text a couple of weeks ago. Everyday Chelsea texted and everyday Connor stared at it not knowing what to say. But for whatever reason, he didn't tell his dad that his mom had contacted him. No matter how angry he was at her, he didn't want to turn her in. However, the urge to have his mother explain herself outweighed the weariness he felt about communicating with her behind his dad's back.
Connor, it's mom. Just saying hi and that I love you. It was the same message everyday.
Hi mom. Connor responded. The reply was immediate.
Thank you for responding, sweetie. I've missed you so much. Chelsea felt true elation at the response. While she understood why he didn't want to talk to her, the silence was brutal and painful. She wondered what made him finally respond.
I found something out and I want you to confirm it.
Of course, honey. What is it?
Are you Johnny's birth mother?
Chelsea dropped her phone in shock, what was Connor asking this for? Then it hit her, the fight she had with Victoria in front of Johnny. Victoria must have told Adam who decided to take it upon himself to explain her truth to their son. The con artist fumed, how dare Adam tell their son about her past without her being there. She already knew that he told things incorrectly while throwing her under a bus in the process.
Mom, are you still there?
Sorry, sweetie. Your question just surprised me. I'm still here. She took a deep breath before answering the question. Yes, I'm Johnny's birth mother. How do you feel about that? And who told you? Chelsea watched as the text bubbles form and reform for what felt like an eternity. Finally Connor got back to her.
I'm confused. Dad tried to explain, but I left before he could finish. You lied to me, you both lied to me.
Connor, if you let me explain, I promise you won't be confused.
Later. Grandpa is calling me to dinner. I'll talk to you when I'm ready.
Connor.
Connor.
Connor!!
No response, she guessed Connor was serious about needing his time. Her own head was swimming with multiple emotions and thoughts. Connor clearly needed her, but didn't want her. Not that she could get near him anyway. The Newmans probably had him surrounded by security, no doubt that Adam insisted on it. Her temper flared again at the thought of Adam. He finally pulled his head out of Sally's ass to parent their son and this is what he does. It was time to start plotting her return to Genoa City; her son needed her and she wanted him.
