14 - mistake

After finishing the three-legged race in second place (Jax got first), I immediately went into my room. I locked the door, marching over to my desk and plopping myself down.

Opening the drawer, I found the familiar diary that I forgot to write entries in.

day idk what the f̵̧̡̡͍̦͔̙͉̦̬̭͎̿̑́͑̓͂ŭ̴͉̩̖̝͉̯͚̤͚͓̠͍͕̒c̸̝̙̪͍̠̭̦̗͚̙̈́̿̈́̔͂̒̂̀̚ķ̸̡̢̛͇͚͍͉͇̦̪̟͍̞̠́̐̄͋̍͌̍̉͗̚͝ anymore +3

I took a deep breath. Calm down, (y/n).

the dream started off fine. my past boyfriend was really caring, apparently.

My pencil hovered over the paper, my hand not knowing what to write.

we were running in a park and i fell. thats about it. the only valuable information i got out of that was that my boyfriend's name was jasper and my name was still (y/n).

Great, I got all the important stuff down. Now I could put the journal away.

As I opened the drawer, I froze. I should write about the nightmare...

I closed the drawer and picked up the pen again, recalling what happened. I flipped the page, writing on the blank paper.

     i keep seeing him

Just then the door opened, leaving me caught like a deer in headlights. I froze as the periwinkle rabbit walked in, a sly smirk on his face.

"Hey, (y/n)!"

Quickly, I tried to hide the diary, but it was too late. Jax already saw it.

"Oh, what's that? Let me see!"

Fuck!

I tried to resist it, but it ws useless. My arms moved involuntarily as I dropped the pen, holding my newest page to him. I bit my lip as I tried not to cry.

His face dropped as he read the sentence. "Mousie," he muttered. "What is this?"

I refused to speak, my bottom lip trembling as I looked away, tears forming in my eyes. I hated feeling like this.

I hated feeling vulnerable.

"(N/n)," he muttered. "You're making me mad, and you don't want to see me when I'm mad. I can be very, very dangerous."

I still refused to look at him, hoping he'd give up.

"Mousie."

My body jolted. I couldn't see anything, just black.

'Mousie.'

Jax's voice blended into Nico's as I trembled, trying not to let him—get to me. I couldn't let him hurt me. I didn't want another scar.

"Mousie." Jax's voice brought me back to reality.

"D-don't call me that," I stuttered.

"(Y/n), I command you to tell me honestly what this is about."

His tone was cold and hard, unwilling to relent and show any form of mercy.

Jax brought me out of the trance, but with a price.

My lips moved unwillingly as I explained what happened in my nightmare, still terrified at what the person in front of me may do.

"H-he swung his sword at me a few times a-and I dodged, but I bled a bit and then I panicked because I-I shouldn't be bleeding in the circus and I told him I'd tell Caine but he said he'd kill me and h-he also—"

"Stop."

His voice was filled with rage, and as he looked at me, I could see the slight clench in his jaw, the fury in his eyes, the way his ear twitched—

He raised his hand and I shut my eyes, waiting for the impact.

SLAM!

Jax walked right out the door, not even bothering to say a word.

I wasn't hurt.

Sighing in relief, I sunk down onto the floor, hugging around my legs as I curled up into a ball, terrified. The tears that were in my eyes finally fell down as I was too mentally drained to wipe them.

Jax was fuming. As he left (y/n)'s room, he clenched his fists and ran off to who knows where.

"Jax?" A timid voice tried to bother him. "Are you—are you alright?"

Immediately, he whipped around and saw the face of a terrified Gangle.

This damn girl won't leave me alone.

He stomped in her direction, ready to push that mask of her's to the floor before she stepped back. "Jax? JAX!"

He hadn't realized that his hand stopped right in front of her face, ready to hit her.

She shut her eyes, waiting for the impact.

"No," he muttered.

He collapsed, his legs giving out as he slumped backward in exhaustion and frustration.

"Jax! Are you-"

"Save it for later," Jax muttered. The rabbit picked himself up and began walking away, but he heard Gangle's high-pitched voice again.

"Jax, why are you mad?"

"None of your business."

"Jax, it clearly has to do with (y/n), and if it has to do with (y/n), you should probably try fixing that problem, starting off by talking with one of her friends."

He paused. She has a point.

"Fine," he said. "What do you want?"

"Tell me what happened."

He sighed. "She was writing in a diary, I used a key to get in her room because I always do that, I made her show me what was in the diary, and the first sentence was 'i keep seeing him'.

"She was terrified out of her mind for some reason. I then commanded her to tell me and she mentioned something about assault. I reached for her ears because ear scratches can comfort her sometimes, but she flinched. I guess she thought I was gonna hurt her too," Jax finished bitterly.

Gangle remained silent the whole explanation, not making a single comment. "Do you want me to tell you where you messed up so you don't do it again or do you want me to just tell you how to fix it?"

"The latter," he said. "As quickly as possible."

"Knock on her door and ask to come in. If she says yes, go apologize. If not, leave her alone, she needs it."

"What?" Jax was starting to get angry again. "I—"

"One of the main things a female values is independence, Jax. If you aren't willing to give her that, you aren't worthy of being what you want to be with her."

His shoulders slumped. "Fine. I'll go now."

"And may you please stop breaking my mask?"

He sighed. "Fine."
