After talking with Jax, I ran. I was sick and tired of this secrecy shit and I just wanted a break.
I didn't even realize I was outside until I sat down by the lake. My reflection stared at me—a pitiful little mouse.
Prey. Weak.
I was sick of this. I just wanted to get out of this place.
A loud sob escaped from my throat as my ears drooped down, covering my face. I let the waterworks flow, tears coming out of my eyes as I cried.
I heard shuffling behind me and I tensed. "Jax, go away. I'm not in the mood, just please—"
"It's not Jax," a familiar voice interrupted.
I turned my head, lifting my ear slightly as I noticed the disfigured figure now sitting down next to me. "Oh."
"But did something happen between you and Jax@_+?" Zooble asked. "I thought you were good this morning?"
I laughed drily. "We were. Not anymore."
"Care to explain?"
I frowned. "This morning, he told me that I should be honest with him, but he won't even do the same for me."
Its stupid. He hugged me, told me I could trust him yet was keeping something from me the whole time.
And he didn't even have the balls to admit it.
"What did little +$&@_ lie about?"
I held back a laugh, trying to stay pissed. "Everyone keeps calling me a muse."
Zooble's gaze softened as they studied my face. "I see." Their expression seemed like they knew what was going on.
"...So?"
They sighed. "I see why you're mad at him."
"Care to explain?" I shot back at them becoming impatient.
Zooble rolled their eyes. "He didn't tell you not because he didn't want to, but because he physically could not. Caine could immediately sense his attraction for you and used some code or whatever to prevent him from telling you."
My heart dropped. "Wait..."
"Yeah. He's not the only one who @-$&ed up."
I shot up, getting ready to run back. "Oh my god, I need to apologize—"
"Hold on," Zooble said, grabbing my wrist, "there has to be more that you want to know."
They pulled me back to the ground as I gave in. "Fine," I said.
They met my eyes, a serious look passing over their features—something that seemed unusual for them. "You're supposed to be a big factor in the circus's future. He gave you an ability related to music. Something to do to calling out to people."
I stared at Zooble, but in confusion. "Say that again, but since I'm stupid, say it in a way that a 5-year-old would understand."
"You're a big change in the circus," they said, this time more slowly. "The circus is trying to adapt to fit more modern themes to attract more people. For example, your clothes are more... fashionable than ours. Plus, you actually have different clothes that you can change."
"Okay."
"Caine also gave you an ability. It's not the flute playing, but the fact that your flute playing can 'call out' to anybody."
"Explain this part again."
Zooble looked deep in thought as they tried to come up with the right words. "If someone is passing by, it's physically impossible for any of us to not listen to your playing. We are 'captivated' in a way, but 'calling out' to someone can also mean that we can hear your music whenever you want us to."
