Sam stayed like that for days. He would not let anyone in the room with him, except when Cas was trying to heal him. He talked to no one but Gabriel. Trying to rouse him from where ever his mind had taken him. Clearly he was in much worse shape than he had let on before they left, but why hadn't he told anyone? Why had he hidden it from Sam?

A choked sob escaped his lips. He didn't want to cry. He refused. So instead he sang. He sang to Gabriel the songs that he had grown so comforted by. Then he sang other songs, anything to fill the silence.

He closed his eyes and started a new song, squeezing Gabriel's hand tightly as if he could wake him with his will alone.

"I'm in love with an angel. Heaven forbid. Make me a believer with the touch of his skin.
I'd go to Hell and back with you, stay lost in what we found. Worlds apart we were the same until we hit the ground.
Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm weak, maybe I'm blinded by what I see. You wanted a soldier, but it wasn't me cuz I could never set you free.
So fly on your own
It's time I let you go, go
Go.
I'm in love with an angel who's afraid of the light
His halo is broken but there's fight in his eyes
Walls are built to keep us safe
Until they're crashing down
Worlds apart we were the same
Until you hit the ground
Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm weak
Maybe I'm blinded by what I see
You wanted a soldier but it wasn't me
'Cause I could never set you free
So fly on your own
It's time I let you go, go
Go."

Sam was cut off as a sob racked his body. He didn't know when it had happened,  but he had fallen in love with the man In front of him. And now he was on The brink of losing him without being able to tell him that. He couldn't take it. He sobbed, wanting to scream. He wanted to burn down everything. He would trade everything, even go back to the cage, of it meant that Gabriel would wake up.

Sam felt a small squeeze from the hand that he had trapped in his own. His eyes flew open and he stared down into the pair of whiskey colored eyes that he was sure he would never get to see again. He didnt hesitate. He launched himself at Gabriel, wrapping his arms around his smaller frame and burying his head into his shoulder. Sobs continued to wrack his body as he just held him, so grateful that he had waken up.

Gabriel wasn't sure what had happened. One minute he was asleep. The next minute he heard singing. He heard smas voice as he sang song after song, tunes that he had sang to him in the past. It was so comforting. He drifted towards the sound, letting it surround him. He felt safe.  Suddenly the singing was replaced by sobs. Gabriel didn't like that.  He didn't want Sam to be crying, although he wasn't sure what was wrong, he wanted to fix it. He tried to move his Jody, tried to get to sam. Finally he felt a hand squeezing his, he gave a soft squeeze back as his eyes cracked open. That was all it took for sam to suddenly be onto of him, hugging him so tight that he couldn't breathe. He felt his face burry into the crook of his neck and hot tears dripping onto his skin.

"Sam? What's wrong? What happened?"

Sam shook his head, unable to speak at the moment and just held him tighter. He felt arms wrap around him then a pair of wings. Sam could do nothing but shake as he held onto the man he thought he had lost.

Cas and Dean entered the room, intending to just check on Sam, instead finding both men cacooned in Gabriel's wings. The could hear Sam crying still, but knew that his cries were now of relief instead of loss. The walked out quietly, closing the door behind them.

Sam eventually fell asleep, still clinging to Gabriel like a life raft. He didn't want to let him go, couldn't risk losing him again. Gabriel shifted so that they were laying down together. In the months that they had spent together, they had never shared a bed while sleeping. Neither of them ever said it, but they were both scared of what dreams would pop up if they did, so the took turns. This was the first time that they had held each other though. The first time that either of them had needed the feeling of each other over the need for space. Gabriel was a little fuzzy on what had happened, but he knew that it was his fault that sam was like this, and he hated it. He was the one who was supposed to chase his nightmares away, not add new ones to it. Gabriel sighed.

"I'm sorry sam...I'm sorry I did this to you."

He went to pull away now that sam was asleep, he could tell that he hadn't slept in a few days. He moved to get off the bed, when a hand flug out and grabbed him.

"No! Don't go."

Gabriel looked down expecting to see Sam looking at him, but he was surprised that the hunter was still asleep. He had never spoken so clearly qhile sleeping before. He slowly slid back onto the bed, running his fingers though Sam's hair.

"I'm here. You're okay."

Sams hand gripped him harder, his face scrunching up in pain.

"No...Gabe...no stop...please...don't leave me...please don't leave me..."

Gabriel watched, feeling like he was intruding, but he couldn't leave.

"I'm right here Sam. I'm not going anywhere."

Sam sighed, his face Relaxing a little. He snuggled closer to Gabriel's side, his head practically on the angels lap now.

"I need you gabe....I love you..."

Gabriel froze. He couldn't have heard that right.  Sam couldn't love him. Not how he was. Not with how broken he truly was. Could he?
