The boys slept late into the next morning. But even asleep, Gabriel knew something was wrong. He had heard the scream as if it had come from his own mouth. It was the scream of angels. Something had happened. Something was causing his brothers and sisters in heaven to scream, the fear radiating in his mind. One word formed through the haze of panic.
'Lucifer.'
Gabriel bolted up, his heart pounding. There was no way. His brother could jot have escaped the cage. Sam was still asleep beside him, but he did not look peaceful. He looked scared, even in his dreams. Gabriel remembered last night and sighed. This was the down side of a maye bond. As soon as one of them knew or thought something, the other would know. Gabriel shook Sam softly, not really wanting him to wake up, but also not wanting him to continue his nightmare. Gabriel could see the images in his mind. Sam was in the cage, being cornered by the two angels. Gabriel sent a jolt of his grace into sam, causing the man to jerk awake.
"Sam?"
Sam shook his head, not wanting to talk about it. He suspected Gabriel had seen it anyways, judging by the worried look on his face. When the look didn't fade however, Sam suspected something else was wrong. He reached up, cupping his angels face.
"Hey. What's wrong?"
"I think..."
'Lucifer escaped'
He finished the sentence in his mind. He couldn't bring himself to say the words out loud, but it didn't matter. Sam looked as if he had just been stabbed. He instinctively curled in on himself, wrapping his arms around his body.
"What do you mean? How is that possible?"
"I don't know. They angels...they were screaming. They were screaming his name. They were scared. I don't know how he got out, but he did."
Sams body shook with a sob. He felt a weight crushing his chest, he couldn't breathe. His mind ran through his memories of the cage. He didn't feel Gabriel pulling him into his lap, or hear him speaking. Gabriel felt helpless as he held his mate. There was nothing he could do to help, he just held him close, quietly singing to sam. He ran his fingers through his long brown hair, trying to get through to him.
"Get out your guns, battles begun
Are you a saint, or a sinner?
If loves a fight, than I shall die
With my heart on a trigger
They say before you start a war
You better know what you're fighting for Well baby, you are all that I adore
If love is what you need, a soldier I will be
I'm an angel with a shotgun
Fighting til' the wars won
I don't care if heaven won't take me back. I'll throw away my faith, babe, just to keep you safe. Don't you know you're everything I have?
And I, wanna live, not just survive, tonight."Gabriel felt Sam start to relax in his arms as he continued singing. Eventually he felt him lean back and look up at him.
"I can't....he is going to come for me....I can't go back with him Gabe. I can't "
Gabriel held Sam tighter, his wings wrapping around him like a cocoon.
"You won't. I promise I will not let him near you ever again. You're mine. And I will protect you no matter what."
Sam nodded, gripping Gabriel's arm tightly. He was scared, but he knew that Gabriel was right, he would protect him. He wouldn't let lucifer get to him again.
"w-we beed to tell Dean and Cas."
Sams voice shook, he didn't want to move but they needed to know. Gabriel held him tight, not letting him move.
"They already know."
As soon as he said it, the door to their room opened, Dean and Cas walking inside.
