Y/n' POV

Maddox looks at me, his eyes wide with disbelief. "So let me get this straight. The doe-eyed girl you've been dreaming about since we got to New York is none other than Ariana Grande? And from what I saw, she couldn't keep her eyes off you."

I sigh and lean back in my chair. "Yeah, man. I know those eyes. As soon as I saw them, something just clicked. It was like this magnetic pull."

Maddox squeezes my shoulder. "I believe you, Macky. What else did you feel?"

I pinch the bridge of my nose. "I just felt calm, like I could stare at her all day. It was like I couldn't breathe. And when I saw her blush and bite her lip, my whole body was on fire."

"Damn..." Maddox mumbles.

I take a sip of my rum and Coke, then glance at him. "What?"

He chuckles and shrugs. "Love at first sight?" he says.

As soon as those words left his mouth, I couldn't help but laugh. I've got the worst luck when it comes to love or relationships, period. I mean, people say I'm good looking and I might seem confident, but I can be insecure as hell. Someone like Ariana Grande liking me, let alone loving me? It's hard to believe.

"I already know what you're thinking, and stop it, Macky," Maddox says, breaking into my thoughts. "Selena was a bitch, and she tore you down, man. She was the insecure one and the guilty one. Stop letting her still get to you."

Maddox brought up my ex-girlfriend, and I can't help but wish nothing but the worst for her.

She and I were high school sweethearts. We broke up after graduation, got back together, and then while I was deployed, I found out she was screwing her professor. She loved to guilt trip me, manipulate me, and was just a master gaslighter. Ever since word got out about me inheriting my great grandpa's billions, she's obviously tried to come crawling back.

"Her friend is hot, man," Maddox said, nodding towards Ariana and her friends as they walked back from the bar with new drinks in hand. They passed by us to return to their seats, and with a couple sitting between us, Ariana was only about five seats down from me. I glanced at my phone, pretending to be occupied. I felt her gaze on me for a brief moment and heard her friends giggle as they walked past. Whoever it was, they smelled amazing.

Her friend, Courtney, looked at Maddox and smiled. He wiggled his fingers at her, causing her to blush and giggle.

All of a sudden, some brown-haired guy leaned over and started glaring at Maddox and Courtney. I leaned in to Maddox and said, "I think that's her boyfriend, by the way."
