Lucien POV
'Here goes nothing.' I held Lucia's hand to give her some comfort. I hoped father wouldn't punish her too harshly.
'Considering that father adores Lucia, and Arius not so much, there's a good chance.' We walked into the office, faced by our absolutely expressionless father. This didn't worry us too much, since he mostly looked like that.
Now that I think about it, although everyone says Arius looks similar to me, I almost can't see any similarities between him and father, whom people praise me for looking alike. He mostly has mother's face. 'But that's not important.'
"Lucia, I heard what happened in the garden. Is there anything you'd like to say about it?" Suddenly, my father's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked over at Lucia, who still had yet to lift her gaze up from the floor.
"... we had a fight, and I got angry..." she didn't bother lying, because father always saw through her. She knew that if father wasn't angry at her for hitting Arius, he'd be angry at her for lying to him. After a few seconds of silence, father turned to me looking into my eyes. "And what were you doing when this happened?" "...I was right behind her..."

"You guys realize that had anyone ever witnessed this, our family's reputation would be ruined, don't you? Lucia, you need to learn to keep your composure, it's unacceptable for a young lady such as yourself. Lucien, you should be more prepared for everything. As the future head of the family, I expect better from you next time."""Yes, father.""
In the end, father lowered Lucia's monthly allowance until she could control her behavior, and let me off with only a warning. "Phew, that went better than I expected." Lucia heaved a sigh of relief beside me. "Let's go to the library. Most of the etiquette books are there." "Awww do we have to?" "Don't you want to get your allowance back?"
"Touché."I slightly chuckled at her behavior. She's truly lovely.
We went over to the library, ignoring everyone on the hall. 'They're not worth our time.' When we got closer, we saw Arius and some maid stepping into the library and closing the door. Both me and Lucia paused with our steps.
I looked over at Lucia, and she seemed to have a frown and her hands were clenched. "Let's just get this over with." She just kept walking. We were careful to keep quiet as we entered the library. As we made our way through the rows, we heard Arius' giggling. It was the first time we did.
Lucia got curious and silently rushed over to the voice, with me right beside her. When we got there, we saw a bandaged Arius sitting in a sofa with a book in his hands, and happily chatting with the maid beside him.
"My, master Arius, I didn't know you had a thing for mystery books."
"It's nothing much, I just like to try to solve the mystery before I get to the end."
"You're right, young master, but most kids your age wouldn't prefer to read a 600 pages long book about a murder."
"Silly sister Lilith, I'm not 'most kids my age'!"
"Pfft, you're right, young master." "Hehehe☺️"I quickly looked at Lucia, only to see her eyes wide and teeth gritting. I quickly gripped her hand, snapping her back. She let go of my hand and got out of our hiding spot "Shit." I muttered under my breath. I have no time to amuse that kid.
Once he noticed Lucia, the previous flowery aura around him quickly disappeared, becoming cold. He quickly looked behind Lucia, discovering me in the process. The air around him became even colder, making both me and Lucia feel unpleasant. 'That damn brat.'
His eyes became cold, and he eyed us up and down. Afterwards, he swiftly scooted over to where that maid was standing, and resumed his reading. This made Lucia even angrier. She glared at the maid, "You, whoever you are, get out. Don't you know that this place is prohibited to the likes of you? Scram!"
Arius quickly intervened, "Tch, sister Lilith came here with me under my orders. So, she's very much allowed to be here." He glanced up from his book to Lucia, stood up and tugged on that maid's skirt. I saw him shaking slightly. "Let's go, sister Lilith. I don't feel too safe anymore. Please."
"!"
His tone completely changed, he was practically begging for that wench to take him away from here
The maid's eyes widen and she quickly put her hand on Arius' back and wordlessly led him out of the room, not before grabbing his book and giving us a quick bow.Once they got out of the library, Lucia lost it, "AARGH! HOW DARE THAT BRAT CALL THAT PEASANT HIS SISTER WHEN I'M RIGHT HERE?!" She stomped on the floor and hit a shelf. I didn't like it one bit, and I was quite offended too, but as the older one I tried to coax her into moving on.
"Come on, let's just go get you your books."
