Chapter 8
Underneath me lay a blanket of cold, damp grass. The mysterious green forest stretched out as far as the eye could see. I lay on my back looking up at the twinkling night's sky. Then I remembered what had happened in Adella's living room. I sat up straight taking in the beautiful scenery surrounding me. I wasn't on Earth, or Heaven, but I knew for sure that I wasn't in Hell. This forest was much too beautiful to be Hell. It was dark everywhere I looked, and there seemed to be a thick layer of mist sprinkling the ground. Bright splotches of vivid colors peeked out from every corner, giving the forest a light glow.
I stood and spun around when I heard a scream. It sounded somewhere in the distance as if someone was drowning. So I followed the sound north, through the trees. Soon I came to a large pond. I had to admit it was extremely terrifying the way the moon shone down on its waters. I shuddered as I watched the reflection of the moon on the water ripple. My breath shortened , and my heart skipped a beat. I stood completely still with my eyes closed as Kohl's head began to rise from the water.
"Please don't hurt me." I whispered, eyes still closed. All I heard was a quiet whimper in response.
"Why would I hurt you? I love you." His voice was so quiet and hoarse it seemed that he almost struggled to get the words out.
"Please." I cried softly, opening my eyes.
I jumped at Kohl's sudden screams of agony. He went silent. I had almost begun to believe he was faking. When just seconds after he began to flail frantically in the water. Then he was pulled under, he had drowned. His head popped out of the water long enough for him to scream and say.
"Help me please... I'm so sorry!" Those were his last words before he was dragged beneath the water. As crazy as it seems I didn't feel happy that Kohl, the guy who'd killed everyone I cared about was dead. I was actually sad, and I had to wipe away the tears that welled in my eyes.
I took a few steps into the water, in hopes that maybe he was still alive. I listened closely for the crickets that had been chirping only minutes before, but it was dead silent. My breathing had become very loud, and a soft whimper escaped my throat. I screamed as a hand reached out of the water and grabbed my leg, pulling me down flat on my face. If anyone had come looking for me,the first thing they'd notice would be the fingernail trails that I'd left in the dirt before I'd been dragged under the water.
