Chapter 4

I shot out of bed. There was sweat laced all over my face, and hair. I've had that dream twice today. The images of him torturing her replays in my mind every time I fall asleep. I tied my hair into a bun, and got up to go to the bathroom. Now you know why I've been crying all day. The cool splash of cold water felt refreshing on my burning cheeks. I looked up into the mirror. I looked like shit. I took a quick hot shower to relax my muscles. Today's the day of the Black Parade. It's been a year since Adella was killed. It hasn't begun to rain yet, but you never know. Anything can happen. One minute someone can go from being your best friend, to your worst enemy. I can't believe that I actually thought Kohl and I might have a connection. I probably shouldn't call him that, its not like it's his real name. Ever since the accident I've been hearing voices. It only happens when someone's in trouble. For instance if a human's in trouble and they call 911, I'll be able to hear their conversation. You're probably thinking I hear every voice, of every human that's in danger, but you're wrong. I only hear their voice if they're close to death. It sucks! It's like listening to Adella scream in pain over and over again, except different. I guess I'm supposed to be some kind of a savior. If I hear their voice, I'm supposed to help them. The only way I can do that is if I'm on Earth, but I'm not. Therefore I have to listen to them scream until they're dead.

"Anastasia! If you can hear me, I need your help! Please hear me baby, please!" My eyes widened as my moms voice floated through my mind. I nearly slipped when I jumped out of the shower, leaving the water running. I dressed quickly. My best friend already died. I sure as hell wasn't going to let my mom die too. The door to my green bug flew open. I hopped in, and sped off. Traffic was slow today. It took me nearly ten minutes to drive down one street. The light turned red. Oh great, this was just perfect! I stuck my head out the window.

"Come on people move along!" I yelled out the window.

"Can't you see the lights red!" Some guy yelled back. A rain drop hit my cheek. I looked up into the sky. The perfect blue color of the sky faded to blackness. I didn't have time for this. I got out and started running. I couldn't believe how fast I was going. Not even a car could catch me. The light turned green. Cars honked at me, but I ignored them. I could hear citizens cries of horror when they realized it was raining. It was pouring harder than ever. Time was running out. I was almost sure that they were already at Life's Curtain. Low branches hit my face and arms as I ran through the forest. I came to the clearing where James had my mom held hostage. I sped up my pace when he turned his head and smiled at me. I always knew there was something up with him.

"Say goodbye to mommy." He said, throwing her over the edge of the cliff. I spread my wings and jumped in after her. We were falling together. I caught her limp body before she disappeared into the clouds below. I blanketed her body in the warm embrace of my wings.

"You're safe now, no need to worry." I whispered in her ear.

"You have to let me go." She said.

"B-b-but I-I-I can't let you go. You're all I've got left. I stumbled over my words.

"You've got to let me go." She repeated.

"Please don't make me let go. You can't leave me." I begged.

"You have to let me go. Put me out of my misery. I'll always be with you. You just won't be able to see me. Keep me in your heart, and everything will be alright. I love you baby. You've got to let me go."

Tears spilled down my face. "I love you mommy." I whispered. I silently counted to three. When I got to three, I slowly and carefully opened my wings and let go. I closed my eyes, unable to watch. Her deathening scream pierced my heart. My life was completely over. Everything I've ever loved was gone. My father had left me before I was born. My best friend was killed by the Prince of Demons, and now my mothers killed by one of Lucifer's minions. How could anything possibly get any worse. I hovered there for the longest time. I was almost tempted to let myself fall into Life's Curtain, just to see if anythng would happen. Too bad for me my wings weren't cut off.

I flew back up landing just before the edge of the cliff. James waited there for me. His back turned. He turned to face me, his face instantly pulling up into a smile.

"How could you! You evil, rotten monster! I'm going to kill you slowly! I'll rip you apart limb by limb, and then I'll bury your body parts in different places all around the world!" I screamed, running towards him. I was ready to spring for his neck. Just before I could get my hands around him he disappeared, leaving me speechless and confused in the middle of the clearing.
