After all the crazy shit Cass and I had been going through, we decided to spend some time as boring and normal as possible.
We started comparing the music we liked to listen to. We were lying on the bed like two BFFs sharing headphones. When Cass started with her playlist, I was not surprised that she was the one of us who liked the old classics and songs from the 70's to the 90's. So it was just natural that we ended the tour with Lou Reed's "Perfect Day".
When it was my turn and I came up with all the young female indie songwriters in their twenties, Cass laughed at me, like I was the teenager. Which, I had to admit was mostly true, when I compared our emotional states. My musical tour ended with Wolf Alice's "The Last Man on Earth".
And so Cass immediately intercepted by asking if I knew that the song was inspired by a quote from a Kurt Vonnegut novel, which went like:
"Who were you to ask for anything more?
Do you wait for your dancing lessons to be sent from God?"This again brought us to talking about our favourite novels. So I told her that I was strangely intrigued by Truman Capote's "Other Views, Other Rooms", which had always felt like part of my own childhood.
I then turned to Cass and asked her if one of her favourite books was "Jane Eyre". She looked surprised, saying, "How do you know?"
But after some minutes I just looked at her again and saw that smirk on her face that told me that she was just bullshiting me.
She leaned forward to grab her bag, rummaged through it and finally took out a very raddled paperback copy of Clive Barker's "Imajica".
When I browsed through the book, Cass remarked that she had read it at least three times and that she had always wondered about the rich and imaginative worlds presented in the story. "And now as it seems we have the key to a realm that can be all of that and even more."
"Have I already told you how grateful I am that you are here?" I said. And then I reached out for her hand to pull her up, adding, "How about showing you all the places I loved to go to as a kid and then we grab something to eat?"
"Sounds great to me", Cass replied, with her smile that made all the difference.
