Our abilities and skills to stay aware in our sleep were to be tested soon. We hoped that having Una as native of the dream world at our side would make up for all the insecurities and all the possible inefficacies that we still carried with us.
We fell asleep with the same intention of staying conscious, holding hands, lying on mattresses spread out on the floor.
And it worked. We managed to find ourselves together awake in our dreams.
"Are we in one dream, or together in our different dreams?" I asked immediately when I looked at Una and Jason.
"You will have to accept that the logic from your realm does not apply in any way here. So I think the question is irrelevant. At least for now" , Una answered.
"So, where do we go from here?" Jason asked.
"You must lead us because we want to find your dark secrets and fears", Una explained.
"But how do I do this?"
"Just get into your fears and worries. Give in to them. We are here to follow you."
As soon as Una had said this, the ground beneath us crumbled away like nothing and we fell. And just when I thought we would wake up at such a disarray, I felt Una's hand firmly grabbing mine and Jason's on the other side.
We looked at each other. It was as if we were not moving at all, like we were hovering in a peaceful space. Una's eyes displayed such empathy and love that we could not help but feel totally safe.
She addressed Jason in a quiet way, saying, "Whenever you are ready, we stop."
I could see that he was in a place, he had never been before, that was full of fear and love at the same time, which was obviously impossible. But not here. Not with Una.
He closed his eyes for about a minute. Then he opened them and just said, "Now!"
Where we arrived at was the place I had least expected. We stood in the midst of a beautiful and lush landscape. There were so many children laughing and running around, having fun. The colors were so rich that I had the feeling things would burst with joy.
There was a fairground with all the attractions a child could hope for. Adults were buying cotton candy for the kids. Everybody was more than cheerful.
Then I saw him. Little Jason.
