When Cass and I came downstairs, we immediately though that the realms of waking and dreaming had merged again. But then Una stood there smiling like an angel.
She told us about her experiences and that she had found out that she was human and not human at the same time. While we were enjoying this amazing breakfast, Una had materialised, we all had the epiphany that we all might have more possibilities if we changed our perspective from being a victim of all this, to being a co-creator. And even if Cass and I would fail as Neo's copy, we knew that Una would not.
"Do you think that this could be the end of the world as we know it?" I spoke my mind. "Maybe'", Cass replied, "but hasn't this already happened before? I mean to all of us?"
"We should always ask ourselves, which side we want to be on", Una added. "The moment we lose ourselves to our fears, we become Shadow's sidekicks. And I guess, it has never been different. Only now the consequences will be more obvious."
We knew that Una was right and that only now it was much harder or even impossible for us to ignore the unfolding of our destinies.
"I guess, I am the one who must be really careful. I mean, I am definitely the weakest link here." I said. "That is why my parents had to die."
"You are right", Una said in a surprisingly steadfast way. "That is why we have work to do with you. But it is dangerous, because we have to go exactly where Shadow is at an advantage over us. We must dig deep into all your unconscious fears and possible traumas in your dreams. You can only do whatever it takes if you definitely wipe your slate clean."
I swallowed, but then I nodded, asking, "And when shall we start?"
"Tonight", Una answered, looking at Cass, reaching out for both our hands.
We spent the rest of our day in solemn serenity. We knew that the easy going part, no matter how short it had been, was now over.
