Under the midnight sky

Joy.

What is Joy? A feeling of great pleasure and happiness? Well, yeah that's the definition for it. But for me I would describe joy as running around in a field filled with the most beautiful flowers ever, or even better being around the people I love. Yes, that is how I would define Joy.

I kneeled down on the grass, infront of the flower section of the garden and placed the empty basket that I planned on putting the flowers I pick in.

I love flowers, Tulips being my favorites. And the best thing ever is that my dad loves gardening and ever since I was little always planted many different types of flowers in our garden and I adore them.

I got up and picked up my basket which was now filled with flowers, and was about to make my way inside the house when my cousin, Esme called out my name from the fence gate that lead from the back yard to outside, "Eleanore."

I looked at her and she waved me a hand indicating I come over. I put down my basket of flowers on the back door stairs then made my way over to her.

"Why are you so messy?" She asked me and I pointed behind at the flower section of the garden, "I was picking flowers." I explained.

"Okay. I just knew you would still be here. The royal family have called for a kingdom meeting." She explained and I sighed, "What could it possibly be about?" I asked more to myself than Esme.

"I was actually wondering why everyone was going that direction-" She cut me off and finished my sentence, "And why there appears to be no one around, yeah. And your mom said I should come get you knowing you would still be here. Let's go." She said and I opened the backyard gate then walked out closing it behind me.

I was born and raised in the kingdom of Adenvale and so was my entire family going back to my great great grandfather's parents.

My family also owns four restaurants around the Kingdom and coincidentally enough my grandma happened to have four children who each inherented one, there is my dad and his twin brother who is Esme's dad making us more of sisters than cousins, his younger sisters who also are twins.

Esme and I reach the palace and happened to find our parents and stood with them amongst the crowd of everyone in the Kingdom.

"Eleanore where were you?" My mom asked me ,"I was picking flowers at home." I answered her, "Ai, is that why you are so messy?"She asked and I nod then she used her thumb to wipe something of my cheek," How did you get dirt in your cheek? "She asked and I shrugged.

I loved my mom to bits. She is literally my best friend and everything. She still treats me like her little child even though I am an adult and she vows to never stop.

Everyone went silent once the royal family walked onto the balcony in front of the palace, the main balcony.

The royal family consisted of The king and Queen of course, the oldest and heir to the throne, Prince Arthur, the youngest , Princess Emma and Sir Lancaster, Adenvale's previous King, who retired being King after his wife died, the late Queen, saying he could not rule without her and passed on his title to his son.

They all had serious expressions on their faces. I mean they always do but this time they looked more serious and the Prince was not present.

"Greetings people of Adenvale. With this meeting we come bearing bad news." The King began and mutters began before he continued, "There has been an attack last night in the palace. And Prince Arthur was attacked." Once again after he said that mutters arose again and everyone was clearly in shock.

The King continued, "We assume the attacker is from a neighboring Kingdom. Probably seeking revenge. We felt the need to inform you all about all that has happened and we assure you the Prince will be okay." And with that they said their goodbyes before ending the meeting.

"Oh my that devastating." My mom began and I had zoned out wandering who would dislike the Prince enough to attack him, "Eleanore." She smacked me lightly but I felt the pain and I looked at her. "What was that for, ma?" I asked her and she shook her head. "Are you listening to me?" She asked and I shook my head. I can't lie to her ever.

"I don't know. I feel like maybe there is an inside job, like someone from Adenvale helped with the attack. Don't you think?"I asked her and she shook her head." You watch too many dramas, man. "She said and I laughed at her expression.

" Come on think about it. Like it is actually impossible for anyone to attempt to get in from outside the Kingdom without going through many processes first. "I said and my mom shook her head once again.

" Where is pa? "I asked her wondering where my dad is because I had not seen him since last night when I went to bed," Went to a conference outside the Kingdom with your aunts and uncle and a few of his friends."She said as we reached the house.

She opened the front door and walked in and I followed her closing the door behind me.

I made my way to the kitchen then opened the back door and picked up my basket of flowers which sat on the stairs before walking back in and closing the door behind me.

"Eleanore go get cleaned up. We have to go to the restaurant soon! " My mom called out from upstairs.

I made my way to my room and sat the flowers basket on my dresser. I picked out my uniform and got cleaned up before changing into it.

I sat down on my bed and began brushing my hair before tying it in a low ponytail. I heard my dads voice from downstairs and I quickly got up then rushed downstairs to see him.

He was standing by the door having had just entered, my mom hugging him she pecked his cheek before going back to what she was previously doing. And I ran up to hug him. My dad is my second best friend, actually he shares first my my mom. Esme is second. "Hey pa." I greeted him as I let go of him and he smiled and greeted me back, "Hey flower." Yeah he calls me flower and vows to always do.

"How was your day?"He asked me and I began talking exited to explain my day, " So. I spent most of it picking flowers and just being in the garden then the royal family called a Kingdom meeting and they said the Prince was attacked last night. They say it might have been a person from the neighboring Kingdom."

"I say it is an inside job." He said, "That's what I said. Ma says it can't be but it's the only way." I said and he agreed with me and we talked about what we usually talk about as I waited for my mom to finish cooking dinner as she says we can't work on empty stomachs.
