Once we arrived at headquarters I went to get out of the car.

"No, stay in the car. I won't be long." Steve snapped.

"It's hot out here! I'm not waiting in the car!" I snapped back. Steve grumbled as I got out of the car. He walked quickly inside, and it was hard for me to keep up, but I did my best.

"Once we get inside, I'll show you to my office and you can wait in there." Steve said and I just half nodded as we walked into the office. I looked around and saw tons of tech but only 3 other people working. "Okay right through here..." Steve said opening the door to his office.

"Woah! You can't just bring in someone and not even think about not introducing them!" The blonde guy said who was leaning against the table. Steve grumbled to himself.

"Cali, this is Danny or Danno, Chin and Kono. Now please go in the office..." Steve said.

"Nice to meet all of you." I said.

"How do you know Steve?" Kono asked.

"Oh, I'm a friend of Mary's. We were roommates in college then after college we got a place together in LA. My job has transferred me here now though." I explained.

"Well, welcome to Oahu." Chin said and I smiled.

"Thanks." I said.

Steve was standing with his office door open, and I just looked at him.

"Fine." I grumbled and walked into the office. He shut the door.

I watched Kono hand him a folder and he started looking through it. I got up and started looking at all the military medals and awards Steve had. I knew he was a decorated seal in the navy, but I didn't know to what extent.

I wasn't sure how long I had been in his office when the door opened, I turned to see Steve standing there.

"I have to go out, we got a lead on something. So here -..." Steve tossed me the keys to his truck.

"What are you thinking?" I asked.

"The GPS in the truck has the home address listed as Home. Just click on that and it will get you back to the house."

"You want me to drive the truck?" I asked following him out as he walked out rolling his eyes.

"Yes Cali, it's fine. I trust you." Steve said and I shook my head.

"Bad idea! Your truck is a mammoth. I don't know how to drive that thing and how will you even get home?"

"Danny can bring me. Listen, it will be fine. Just get home and start settling in." Steve said and I groaned.

"Fine but if I scratch the truck or something you can't blame me!" I poked him in the chest and realized it hurt my finger more than it probably did him. He smirked at me, reading my mind.

"I'll see you tonight." Steve said getting in the car and speeding off with Danny.

I got to the house with no problems and no issues driving the truck

I got to the house with no problems and no issues driving the truck. I went into the house putting in the alarm code that Steve had sent me.

I started walking around the house slowly, looking at everything. I pulled out my cellphone and dialed her number.

"Hey, you get a car yet?" Mary answered the phone.

"Uh, no. Steve got a lead and I'm back at the house...alone." I said.

"Well you can take my room in the house so just make yourself comfortable." Mary said.

"Which is where?" I asked.

"2 door on the right upstairs." She said and I half nodded. "Oh also, major rule that you should be warned about..."

"What's up?" I asked.

"You see the study?" She asked and I saw it from the living room. I walked to the threshold of the office.

"Yeah..."

"Do not go in!" Mary stated.

"Why?"

"You know I told you how my father was murdered?" Mary asked and I shivered at the memory of being told.

"Yeah..."

"Well, he was killed there, and Steve just kind of leaves it the way it was after it was cleaned up as almost a memorial to our father." Mary said and I half nodded backing aways from the threshold.

"Got it." I said and then headed upstairs. "Well, I'm going to unpack. Want to talk later?" I asked.

"You know it." Mary said and we both hung up.

I headed up to Mary's room and sighed knowing I was now here for the foreseeable future.

I had made dinner enough for me and Steve, even extra in case someone from the team came over

I had made dinner enough for me and Steve, even extra in case someone from the team came over.

I had taken a book of mine down to the living room and was reading.

I felt someone touch me and I jolted awake swinging, and the punch was blocked.

"Hey! It's just me!" Steve said and I quickly tried to adjust my eyes.

"What time is it?" I asked.

"1am."

"Are you just getting in?!"

"Yeah, the case led to a few different leads." Steve said and I groaned.

"Also, here." He said and handed me some keys.

"What are these?" I asked.

"Well, a copy of the house key as well as keys to your car. Chin rides his motorcycle everywhere and said his car was useless."

"Oh, that was nice of him..." I said looking at the keys.

"It's fine Cali, really." Steve said and I half nodded.

"Okay well I didn't mean to doze off here so I'm heading to bed." I said getting up. I then turned to look at Steve at the bottom of the steps. "There is beef tips and noodles in a bowl in the fridge. I made dinner tonight..." I said keeping the other half of that thought about thinking he would be home to myself.

"Oh, thanks." Steve said seeming shocked.

"Good night, Steve." I said and finished walking up the steps. It wasn't lost on me that Steve watched me walk up the stairs the entire way.

I went into the bedroom and closed the door. I walked over and sat on the bed putting my head in my hands. What was happening? Why was I so upset he was home so late? There was no need. All I knew was the soon I was out of here finding my own place, the better.
