*bzzz*
it was a text from Marjorie? she never messaged Mia.
What could she want.
As she read each word of the text, she felt her stomach drop and the lump in her throat grew with each word, she instantly felt sick again.
''could you please come see me in the office when you arrive.''
Seeing that made her shiver.
To anyone else that sentence wouldn't mean much, they would follow what the text was instructing them to do. To Mia, it was the last thing she wanted to do.
She stared at the white letters that were making her vision a blur.
she couldn't do it, but she had no choice.
she began to type back
''Can Char come with me?'' She felt childish saying that but she couldn't face it alone.
''Mia you are a grown adult, you don't need Charlotte to hold your hand.''
Except this time she did. she needed Charlotte by her side. If only Char knew the truth.
Would she ever build the courage to tell her? would it break them?
----------------------------------------------------
Char and Mia arrived at the nursery.
As they parked the car in their usual spot, Charlotte glanced over at Mia and noticed her twiddling with her thumbs and her leg bouncing up and down.
What was going on with her? she knew deep down something wasn't right but she didn't want to pressure her. Maybe Charlotte was just being paranoid, maybe it was just one of those days.
Mia was unaware to the fact that they had arrived at the nursery, Charlotte carefully placed her hand over Mia's to hopefully stop whatever was troubling her, their eyes met. Charlotte didn't say anything but she gave her a reassuring smile, Mia responded with an unconvincing but slight smile. The two got out the car, Mia looked up at the nursery reluctant to walk inside but right now she had Charlotte by her side, she felt safe by her presence.
They separated as they got in the entrance, Charlotte disappearing into the baby room. Mia felt alone again, She wandered down the hall as the office door got closer and closer, her heartrate grew in a similar comparison. Just as she was about to reach for the handle, her hand trembling. The door flew open - making her freeze on the spot. Feeling relived when she saw winter and autumn walk out laughing, they stopped when they saw Mia. Mia was becoming more observant, is that what they really thought of her?
''Mia.'' - the harsh but somewhat soft voice came from inside the office.
She reluctantly walked in to see Marjorie sat at her desk. Mia felt vulnerable stood there. Marjorie noticed her shiver which was weird considering it was 27 degrees outside. Marjorie gestured for Mia to take a seat in front of her. Mia did so.
Mia could tell Marjorie wasn't happy about something but what could it be now. How did she fail her this time.
Marjorie got straight to the point before Mia had even had a chance to sit down
''Why didn't you lock up last night'' -last night- the two words she did not want to think about right now.
''well?'' Marjorie nudged for a response when Mia stayed silent.
''I forgot, okay?'' Mia muttered under her breath, looking anywhere but at Marjorie.
Marjorie gave her a sceptical but concerned look.
''well then, do you want to tell me why I found bloo-'' Before Marjorie even finished the sentence Mia put her hand over her mouth and bolted out of the room with an overpowered feeling of nausea to the nearest bin. She hadn't eaten that morning or last night, she couldn't. Nothing came out no matter how hard she tried. Marjorie was not far behind her. She attempted to hold her hair back but this sent flood of images though her mind of his hand running through her hair. She attempted to signal Marjorie to leave her alone but Marjorie was actually worried for the cold-hearted redhead.
''my love, do you want me to get Char for you?'' Marjorie's voice had soften but she asked in an attempt to help.
''no, no she cant see me like this, I don't want her to see me like this.'' Mia panicked through her continuous retches.
"Mia, I don't know what's going on, but I want to help. What's happened?"
She wanted to tell her, God she did.
The guilt was eating her alive, but this was her problem, it was her fault. She didn't want to become someone else's problem.
She collected herself, attempting to reassure Marjorie ''nothing has happened I just haven't eaten''
Marjorie wasn't too convinced the words ''I don't want her to see my like this'' stuck in her mind.
What did she mean by that?
Mia had taken days off before because she was sick and Charlotte always stayed with her to take care of her.
Marjorie knew it wasn't because she was sick
It was something else.
but what?
Marjorie couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. She replayed Mia's words in her mind. Was Mia hiding something from her? And why did she seem so desperate to keep Charlotte away? They tell each other everything? or so she thought. The endless questions played in her mind. The two weren't close at all. Marjorie didn't feel like it was her place to pressure Mia into talking, so she let it go. Maybe she should've, maybe a push from Marjorie would've convinced Mia to speak up on what was playing in her mind.
Mia just wanted to be alone but she wanted those that she loved around her.
