Cold, warm, and cold again...I felt myself turning in my sleep. my eyes shot open as a harsh wind came from my window, waving in the curtains.
My feet felt numb as they touched the floor, a numbness that spread throughout my body. With some trouble, I got out of bed and walked to the window to close it. I wiped the fogged glass with my hand to see out into the night.
My room looked out on the lake, which glowed an unnatural bioluminescent blue, as I pulled the window shut I stared for a moment more. The blue coloration seemed to be writhing below the surface of the water.
As the thought crossed my mind, I found myself standing at the edge of the water. I stood confused as to how I got here so fast and needed a moment to get my bearings.
"...Follow me Tiber..." I heard the voice of Leslie behind me, yet she was nowhere to be seen.
"...Where are we going...?" a chill ran down my spine as I recognized the voice to be my own.Two shadows appeared on the ground, mine and Leslie's, they walked away from the lake and into the moonlit forest.
My shadow had brought me to the rock where the shadows sat.Our whispers became clear.
"Thank you..." Leslie's voice was soothing.
"You're welcome..." and mine, sounded so calm and happy. I felt a rush of relief and happiness wash over me.A sensation that did not last long as the shadows were overtaken by another one, something that grew from behind me, I felt frozen in my tracks, unable to move.
"Tiber..." A deep growl came from behind me, I felt its cold breath in my neck. "Be not afraid Tiber...we have not come to haunt you... The time of our first gift has come... turn around." I felt compelled to turn around. I was now an arm's length away from the dragon. Its snout is the size of me and its teeth the size of my legs.
It breathed in my face, blowing out freezing air. "Tiber..." it once again showed its blue gums.It breathed out once more, filling my vision with fog...The fog faded a few seconds later and I found myself in the middle of the lake, the gargantuan dragon flew in the sky.
"Show us the power that has been shown by us. Your arm, reach it out." It deep and loud voice commanded from above. I complied and reached out my left arm. "Focus on the cold within, feel it through your veins." I began to feel something, it stung as a cold rush ran through my entire left arm. "Focus!" The dragon commanded. The stinging had evolved to pain, but I tried my hardest to focus on the cold throughout my arm, a thunderous strike lit up the night sky, blinding me for a second.
When I regained my vision, I saw someone on a horse galloping my way.
"Release..." the voice of the dragon was unsettling but at the same time calming. As my hand opened I felt all the cold and pain rushing towards my hand, releasing a frigid streak of blue-white light, hitting the person on the horse.
The person fell off the horse and stumbled across the floor, ending at my feet, I was shocked to see that it was Stormvarr who lay before me, as his orange coat lit up in the moon sky. I got to my knees in an attempt to pick him up, only for him to crumble to ash.
"Well done..." The dragon's voice came from above, it flew over the treetops but remained visible. As looked down at me, I noticed that its eyes were glowing the same blue as the lake.
A feeling of betrayal washed over me, I had killed my master.
"You...You made me kill him..." I grasped my hands tighter around the ash that remained, "He's dead..."The Gargantuan dragon landed before, "There is no purpose in following the meek, no mere dwarf will be the end of us; The Friorïce will live on.." It turned its massive head to me, "Follow us, there is no point in following sheep in a world of shepherds."
As the dragon started to rise in the air again, I could feel my temples starting to hurt whilst actively in the dream again.
"You killed him..." My guilt and remorse grew lighter as I felt them actively drain from me."... Use it, harness it. It is one of our many gifts...follow us, and more is to come..." I felt the well of magic somewhere within me come to a boil, I learned something new...
"The sun is starting to rise, and so it is time for you...wake up Tiber... Wake up..." Its voice once again in my head, my ears rang and my head hurt.I shot up in my bed, gasping and pinching myself, hoping that I would not be dreaming. Luckily for me, this looked to be real again.
