As months passed, my daily activities rarely got any different but Master Vu and Stormvarr tended to my curse more, Vu visited the farm once more with more information on the Friorïce.
I spent the day in Stormvarr's basement, connected to all kinds of magical artifacts, from glowing to humming. They tried to break the connection, they took over my mind themselves but were quickly thrown out and I was left with quite the headache.
When either Stormvarr or Vu tried to enter my mind, I could feel its presence, it observed as they tried to poke holes in its armor, trying to find out where it came from. That dragon took complete control of my mind when they did, it had built itself an impenetrable fortress within my mind.
At times the dragon took control of my body and it tried to lash out at the masters but luckily the necessary safety precautions were taken, as I would shoot magic at the old men it only bounced off and was quickly absorbed by an orb that stood at my side.
The dragon, the Friorïce never spoke to them, I was the messenger as its words echoed in my mind. "Your attempts are feeble." It made me say, leaving both Stormvarr and Vu thinking they were using the wrong approach.
They needed to break the connection somehow and prevent it from ever being made again, but the Friorïce was all too aware of the situation.
Master Vu brought books and scrolls from the Wyverncrest Institute, the largest library, and school within the whole of Novarius.
The Friorïce was only mentioned in a few ancient passings, from the time of the Oblivion Reign, over seventeen hundred years ago. The Friorïce was one of our dragon overlords and bound people to its will. It had gone into hiding once their reign had ended when the first high king took his throne in Kelesthia. It was in league with other dragons and now from the shadows or amongst men it still operated.
Their armies, their thralls are better known as the Wyrm Legionnaire and still walk amongst us, according to Master Vu, people are still on the hunt for these dragons, while they use their thralls to try and erase themselves from time...
On the woman, the ghost who followed me around was nothing found, the term was too broad, if it were a ghost it would do more than stand in the distance. There was nothing known from the possessed to seeing ghosts the way I did.
The case was quickly dropped by the masters as no further information could be found and there were more pressing matters at hand, it bothered me some, that the woman had not done anything to me yet but I would have loved to know who she was and why she was following me.
As for the others, Ulric had hopped jobs a bit, he got fed up moving boxes around and applied as a Stableman at a local farm, but that did not last long as he had an accident with a horse kicking him in the family jewels... He then got the job as an assistant cow herder, which meant he got to herd a lot of cows onto a field, and at the end of the day, he would herd the cows back to the farm on his horse and did so day in and day out up to this day.
Skye had worked her way up at her job at the alchemy shop, she was now in charge of buying inventory for the alchemists to use, she had made contact back home, probably with her father to tell him that she was running a shop. In no time did the shop have some more outward connections with other villages and turned a big profit.
Leslie tended at Stormvarr's farm, running all kinds of errands from cleaning the farm, to doing laundry, repairs, and foraging, no day was the same for her. Leslie had more access to the library and thus more knowledge of magic than we all had. She has also been getting extra classes from Stormvarr to develop her magical skills.
As for myself, I have been reading up on magic, dragons, and things related to my condition, this condition is now known within the group but luckily no one treats me any differently. I have been practicing my magic, and I have become better at casting the spells that I already knew, though it is not much. At times I feel like a bit of a slow student, but that is alright I suppose, my situation is a bit different from the rest...Ulric can't cast spells at all, nor does he have the patience to learn it.
I was called into Stormvarr's office on a late spring day, our day of training was done and we all had gotten back from work after having eaten at the Harrows Rest.
He sat me down on his couch across from where the fireplace burnt a small fire.
"Tiber, please take a look at this letter." Stormvarr got up from his desk and handed me a letter. "I wrote it today, I will need you to finish the details."I carefully unfolded the piece of paper and read its contents.
"To the parents of Tiber Everett.
You have been formally invited to visit your child at the Heartlance Academy. This letter has been sent out to the parents of the other students as well.
The students have been rigorously training and on the seventeenth day of summer, we have prepared a day where your children will be able to portray what they have learned thus far, alongside being able to meet with their parents again.
Please show this letter as a state of proof at the mages guild in Nocturn as I will be personally retrieving you and taking you to our academy.
Stormvarr Heartlance."
I looked up from the letter and could only smile, I would finally get to see my parents again.
"I will just need you to write your home onto the letter so that we can make sure it arrives correctly." Stormvarr handed me a quill to which I wrote down my exact home.I handed the letter back to Stormvarr who read it over again to be certain.
"I will send these to Nocturn tomorrow by courier." He smiled. "Thank you, you have been working hard and I hope this is the least I can do for you."My face was hurting from smiling.
"Yes! Thank you. I can't wait."Stormvarr walked back to his desk and unfolded the next letter before looking back at me.
"Would you be able to call over Ulric? He will need to do the same, but please, do not tell him the contents of the letter." He gave me a wink as I left to get Ulric.
