It had been two months since we arrived here, yet I have not been able to cast any kind of magic...It was one of the few days that we went out to the field, often we stayed around reading or getting taught in our classroom. We have only been out a couple of times that we got to practice real magic.

The four of us walked on packed snow towards the training field, all of us shivered with cold and we were given flasks with hot tea to keep us warm. Most of us by now had found our grounds, Leslie and I focussed ourselves on the Arcane whilst Ulric stuck to combat, he had been swinging around a sword against an innocent dummy as our master would not have stood a chance against Ulric physically.

Skye mostly stuck to herself, often not even joining our mornings to the fields, as she stuck to the library in the barn, reading through tomes like a mad woman, I wasn't completely sure what her thing was, but Skye wasn't the most approachable so it wasn't easy to find out.

We arrived at the snow-covered training grounds. Our master stood in front of us.
"Magic is something like love, a feeling. Those born with it will feel the power from within, while others may feel it come from around them." He planted his feet firmly into the snow and from his hands began to form a ball with a thunderous glow. " Now I shall demonstrate something powerful and allow you to feel." his eyes started to glow his hair started to stand up on its own, and all over his dwarven body were little sparks of lightning.

His voice sounded like he was under pressure, and that he was restraining himself, "I will invite you all to lay your hands... on my arm, and feel the magic that flows through me now." He grunted, we all looked at each other, doubting whether this was a good idea, but Leslie stepped up, and laid her hand on his forearm to which Ulric and I followed, and eventually Skye joined in as well.

It is hard to describe what I was feeling, his arm felt like a fluid, crackling, writhing. Pure energy.
"I will now release this bolt of lightning...Step back...please..." Stormvarr grunted as all hastily took a step back. The ball of energy in Stormvarr's left hand grew exponentially. And with a thunderous boom a beam shot out of his hand, blinding us for a second.

The training dummy Stormvarr was aiming for at the other end of the training grounds had evaporated. All that was left was a smoldering heap and the part of the stick of wood that was stuck in the ground.

Stormvarr caught his breath. "Now that was a more powerful rendition of a lightning bolt. Now that all of you know what the feeling somewhat feels like, try, and produce the same kind of feeling within...Of you go..." Stormvarr leaned over, exhausted from holding in that bolt.

I took my place, combining what the dragon had shown me with the stances and the mindset of what Stormvarr had taught me. It may have taken me ten minutes of standing in the cold before I felt a cold spark starting from my shoulder, either it was magic, or I had sprained something.
I closed my eyes, trying to imagine the magic within me. Forcing it down my arm. It began to sting.
"Is it supposed to hurt?" I asked painfully. Stormvarr laid his hand on my shoulder.
"That differs for everyone, just hold on." With pain and effort, I pushed it through I opened my eyes and saw that everyone else had directed their attention to me. "Do you feel it in your hand, balling up?" Stormvarr asked.

"Kind of..." Stormvarr tightened his grip on my shoulder.
"Release whenever you cannot hold it any longer." Eventually, I could feel it become uncontrollable, within my hand was a blinding blue light, shifting and striking out. It exploded in a blinding light, knocking me onto my back and leaving my arm feeling numb.

"Are you okay Tiber?" Stormvarr stood over me, with the rest of the students standing at his back who all looked amazed.
"Yeah..." I grunted as I helped myself to my feet.
"It was the best so far, you just need to learn how to control it." Stormvarr smiled.
"I feel like I am never going to get the hang of this..." I sighed.
