melanie and i had been best of friends since we were 14. we'd met before then but never spoken until her mother's cookbook launch in 2014.
melanie came from old money and we bonded over the fact that freedom meant more to us than anything.
as teenagers, i wouldn't go out much, boarding at school and going home every other weekend. melanie was the exact opposite, though she went to a private school, she'd build a life for herself.
she worked a job and went out to the mall for movies, hanging out after school and so much more.
our life seemed like it was easy but melanie had been through a lot as a kid to have that kind of confidence and freedom as an adult. she worked hard and had her well deserved fun.
we were poles apart but there was nobody else i'd rather get drunk with on a friday night

it was a girls night out and i was missing lando since he was travelling with mclaren for his first formula one test. i hadn't been able to speak to him since he was busy and so melanie had decided to drop by and fill in the role.
"he hugs you like this doesn't he? i'm sure i smell better than him though"
she said and it made me laugh. "oh please, you don't have to"
"then stop cribbing about lover boy. he's gonna call you-" my phone rang right in the moment and it was lando.
