"not how imagined our break to be like, sorry" maeve said while hunching over a toilet and lando just hummed, tying her hair into a low pony tail, avoiding looking at whatever else was around.

it was the end of january, a week away from maeve's 17th birthday. she'd not been able to spend christmas with lando's family but nevertheless, she was able to come by for a week before he needed to get back to his racing routine.

"you don't have to stay here, wait outside. i don't wanna make you uncomfortable" maeve said in a hoarse voice and lando just sat back.

lando wasn't the one to be able to tolerate blood and vomit that wasn't his own.to say he was squirmish in the very least would be an understatement. she knew that.

"i dont wanna leave you alone like this," he spoke softly, playing with the ends of maeve's hair while sitting behind her. "i think i'm done. just give me 2 minutes alone to wash up." she said and lando could hear the pain in her voice.

"i'm telling you, it's the panda express chicken. there was something funky about it." he said before getting up and walking outside the bathroom.

it was in the middle of the night and lando had woken up to the sound of the bathroom door slamming shut.

he was shaken and went to check on maeve, and that's how they ended up here.

lando had been pacing the the room, contemplating waking his mother up to ask for help. he didn't want to come off as a child but he was worried about maeve. she'd been feeling a little under the weather for a while now.

he looked up when he heard the bathroom door open and maeve step out with neatly braided her and a smile on her face. she'd slipped off her sweatshirt, leaving her in a tank top and her pajama pants as she walked towards lando.

"you're burning up-" lando said soon as his palms cupped her cheeks. "i'm fine.  feeling a lot better honestly. the sweatshirt was choking me and this feels so much better" she said, grabbing his hands and gently pulling them away from her face.

lando nervously licked his lips  as he looked at maeve. "are you sure? i could just go wake up my mum-" "don't that. it's okay. just-"she stopped talking gently rubbed the back of her neck.

"just?" lando asked,as he noticed maeve's breath stagger. "i just wanna have some water. and maybe something to eat if that's okay?" lando nodded. "ofcourse - let's go downstairs and i'll cook your something" he said and maeve looked at him surprised.

"you cook?" he slipped on his slippers and turned to look back at her. "i wasn't kidding. i did learn to cook, only a few things so far though "

maeve stood there surprised for a moment until lando tossed a jacket at her. "it's cold. put this on, it'l keep you warm without choking you" he said and she nodded, putting on his jacket and zipping it up halfway before following him downstairs.

they padded down the wooden flooring as quietly as they could until they reached the stairs and ended up in the kitchen.

"what's on the menu today?" maeve asked as she spot lando, immediately searching for ingredients. "breakfast of the champions- pancakes. carbs, sugar. it'll make you feel good" he said with a wink and maeve smiled. "let's hope we don't burn them, i wouldn't want your parents to wake up to the smell of their kitchen on fire" maeve said and lando sulked. " good to know that you have some faith in me" he said and maeve gently massaged his shoulders before planting her face in his back, hugging him.

"you're like a tree" maeve said as lando tried to move around to mix the pancake batter but maeve's arms kept him from moving around the kitchen freely. "and you're a sloth. go sit down and let me cook now. shoo~" he said playfully and maeve rolled her eyes. "fine. i'll sit and admire, in other words supervise you on the stove." maeve said, tickling his sides a bit before stepping back to go sit down on the stools that were by the kitchen island.
